HCM City is the only Vietnamese city that is named after a person. Traditionally, Vietnamese name our cities based on their geological location or function (e.g. Ha Noi: river interior; Hai Phong: coastal defense,...). Only under Russian influence (Stalingrad, Leningrad,...) that we began naming city after people.
