Hello,
I was born and raised outside of Vietnam(Europe), thus I don´t have much knowledge about the Vietnamese education system.
I know that there are 12 classes in Vietnam contrary to 13 classes in Europe. But how does the final exam at highschool there work? Can you choose specific schoolsubjects that you want to get tested in like in Europe? Or do they have to be tested in ALL school subjects that exist in Vietnamese highschool system?
Thanks in advance!

Junior High (end of year 9) - there're 2 exams you need to seat for, and the same for Senior High (end of year 12) ie. one is for completion certificate , one for getting into the next level

What kind of final exams are you guys talking about? The end of class exam or the graduation exams? They are totally different.

Oh
'cuz finals in America is just like "Học Ḱ II" exams in Vietnam (midterm - Học Kỳ I exam). There's nothing such as graduation exam in America.

so you have only one exam at the end of Yr 12 and then the score is used to rank you for tertiary entrance?

it's National Exam you mean?
Final exam means the end of each level while national exam is after the final exam in level 5;9;12
I never took high school in Vietnam so I had no idea but from my friends, the national exam requires the knowledge of level 10-11-12 and that makes it difficult.
After the national exam, student needs to take university entrance exam and each majors requires different subjects

There is PE. I hate it, the Teacher are not so nice to me, i can't be the first though my result always deserve that, he just don't like me...
To be tested in 13 subjects not very comfortable but very challenge...

What I am talking about is highschool graduation exam. The one that you have at the end of 12 for entering university. I think it is called "tú tài" prior to Vietnamese unification and now it is called "tốt nghiệp trung học phổ thông".
I think 2vnspirit has pretty much explained it to me, right? THANKS!

I believe the high school graduation exam is different from the college entrance exam.

Seems similar to Chinese Education System-...
I'm a senior 3 student in China and 72 days later we'll have the College Entrance Examination.
In China,Primary School is from Class 1 to 6;Junior High is from 7 to 9 ; Senior High is from 10 to 12. I'm In The Class 12 now 0(∩_∩)0
We Examine All The Subjects! Chinese Math English Physics Chemistry Biology Politics History Geography ,And BASIC ABILITY including art, music, pe, computer.

How are the marks in Vietnam right now?
In Germany: 1 is the best and 6 is the worst
America: a is the best and f is the worst I THINK?
I heard 1 - 10 with 10 being the best? Is it true?

^^^
One can say that is the general scaling, however better to understand the marks given in a relativity sense though ie. for Maths and Science - 10 is top mark if all qts answered correctly. In others such as written essay, literature etc. the top marks usually given around 8 out of 10

^^^ Yes, similar to this -- in most cities school

They only wear ao dai once a week to "greet the flag" or something. I observed this with my cousin each time I went back to visit.
She's currently in first year at uni. Year 12 graduation exams, you're tested on all subjects. And then college entry is subject specific.
Such a pain IMO. In Australia, or NSW at least, we get to pick 10 units of study, each subject being 2 units, so 5 subjects for years 11 and 12. The only compulsory subject is English. The final exam is called the HSC (Higher School Ceritificate) which gives you a scaled mark out of 100 called the UAI (University Admissions Index) which you can use to enter any university and is valid for 5 years (in case people wanted a gap year to travel or whatever before continuing study). So, it's just the one state exam. Easy.

At the end of every year you have an exam of all subjects. Actually (or technically) it's called thi học kỳ 2 since you did your "học kỳ 1" exam at the half way point, this is just to finish the second part.
At year 12, after that one you take another one called "Tốt nghiệp phổ thông trung học" of 4 or 6 subjects. (It used to be 4 but now it's 6 I think). The subjects may vary a bit but there will always be some core subjects: Toán, Văn, Anh, I think.
Then in order to get into a university of your choice you take the entrance exam for that university. Usually it's 3 subjects depending on which block (khối): Khối A include Toán Lư Hóa, Khối B has Toán Hóa Sinh, Khối C has Văn Sử Địa, D has Toán Văn Anh. Some specific college also has their own exam (for example dance or singing or drawing if you want to get into one of those artistic institution).

That is quite unusual !
In senior high, it was compulsory at my high school days for all students to wear their uniforms, in reputable schools that is, with the exceptions might be for those in He^. B (full fee paid) or remote country schools ie. non-fully uniformed dress (is expensive and not practical as to the weather), while us having partly paid by scholarship ie. state sponsored

There're locally set exams at both at year 10 and year 12, you've prob forgot !
They're called TRIAL Exams - importantly recorded for your final school report and state's scaling mark for University entrance
edit- nowdays called UAI, but two decades ago it was TER = Tertiary Entrance Rank !
