DPM: Up to non-Muslims to evaluate PAS’ attitude

KUALA LUMPUR: The Kelantan government’s decision to ban the sale of lottery tickets in the state reflects PAS’ attitude towards non-Muslims, said Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

The Deputy Prime Minister said PAS’ action had caused unhappiness and dissatisfaction among non-Muslims as purchasing lottery tickets was a common practice among them.

“We leave it to non-Muslims to evaluate PAS’ attitude on the matter but this reflects the party’s attitude towards non-Muslims,” he told reporters after chairing the Cabinet Committee on Human Capital Development at Parliament House yesterday.

He said the MCA and other groups, which felt that their rights to gamble had been infringed upon by the Kelantan government, had the right to take action against it.

On another matter, Muhyiddin questioned why PKR’s secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail had to explain that Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was not a liability to the opposition.

“If it is normal for PAS and Anwar to work together, then there is no need to make such a statement.

“But our sources tell us that PAS was uncomfortable with Anwar campaigning during the Merlimau and Kerdau by-elections and that the party feels that he is a liability,” he said.

Muhyiddin said PAS felt that it needed to distance itself from Anwar, whose “image is tarnished”.

“PAS suffered not one but two blows in the by-elections, so the question now is: Is it because of its policies or because Anwar campaigned?” he asked.

Saifuddin had earlier denied that Anwar was a liability to the opposition, saying that such a statement was a “common attack” on the party.

Note:
A question to Muslims in Bolehland:
May be PAS should also ban the selling and consumption of PORK in Kelantan as it is against the teaching of Islam, no?

chutzpah, as things develop, and if there is no change in trend, I believe Muslims would like FULL Sharia law to be practiced in Malaysia, encompassing all Islamic traditions. That is how Muslims see the Islamic world, i.e., that Islam is to be spread throughout the whole world.

Don't your scriptures or parents ever teach you guys that hating is bad?

Doesn't Islamic scripture also teach you to treat your fellow man equally/fairly regardless of religion?
