Singapore has one of the most extensive women's rights policies in all of the world. Women are not caned, get easier sentences, and have full equality in work. Discrimination against women is not tolerated AT ALL by the authorities or society
However, women do not have to do any NS or contribute at all to their rights, while men do. I can understand a male only conscription policy in a place like South Korea, as South Korea still has problems with gender discrimination, but Singapore does not. If anything, Singaporean women have a pretty easy life. No military service, have an easier time getting jobs, very few expectations, yet they still expect men to pay for everything and men must give them a nice life.
Also, why do so many women complain about the possibility of NS for women? Are Singaporean women really that lazy? Every time the topic has come up, almost all women are apposed to it. Why is that?

There are enough men to fill the need. If needed, women will be used.

They have gotten spoilt because of the setup not because they are women. I do agree that the overuse of maids and government-granted empowerment has given some people an unrealistic view of entitlement in society.

A convenient idea knowing that will never happen. These men have been trained to protect and defend in the event of war, women have no such training (medical?). In fact training for nearly half the population during a period of need would put a massive strain on Singaporean defense. Perhaps Singapore does not really think it would be involved in any takeover with America and Australia behind her.

Tell me what has Singapore got that anyone would want to go to war for? All Singapore has is 3 million people. Is that worth fighting for?

Why would you want to train women to fire an AK7? What does it cost to train someone and keep them in shape? Are the Taxpayers prepared to bear this extra burden for the sake of equality? Can Singapore afford such a luxury?

Nothing really except maybe the use of existing infrastructure and business models that someone might want to use to continue as a port for international trade and storage. I also don't see why there should even be an army in the first place if no such dangers would occur in the future (had never happened before).

In any event for defense why not? Women volunteer their services in many other countries like
Thailand, UK, US etc. OP's query is why should men alone be burdened with this responsibility when they are already burdened by unrealistic expectations from Singaporean women?

initially, I wonder whether the Government would be receptive if a "voluntary organisation" were set up and to provide basic finances for its operation?

Is Singapore a republic? Let the people decide if they value their country enough.

I think its cuz the birthrate is already declining.... they don't want women to come out all butch from the army not ready to spawn for the nation... as it is, many are not getting married despite all the state sponsored courtship thingey.

They don't want any more trouble. Women in the military means (let's face it) sexual harassment, pregnancy, babies on base, shortage of milk powder, you name it. The number of harassment or rapes that occur in the US military is very high compared to the number of servicewomen.
If Singapore ever goes into war I'm sure they'll call up women too, but for now I think that's unnecessary. Let them stay home, make love and more babies.

Yea having any woman working for military service is wrong. IF ever they start getting harass or stuff like that, there will be more trouble. And government are already having trouble with their own citizen. They don't want more trouble.

When I say women should do NS, Im not saying they should be required to do military service. Singaporean women IMO have grown downright spoiled. They aren't caned for crimes, live off their BFs, yet have easier time getting jobs because of no NS, and they don't even have children that often which is one of the main reasons for having male only service.
I think if women were required to do 2 years of EITHER military service or some type of alternative service, they would be more responsible and not spend all day sitting around buying vanity items using there BFs money.

I have an idea: give them the choice between NS, or having baby within 2 years

(if they can't get pregnant by themselves, the government can help

)

Singapore girls are gettin' very self-centered, spoilt and sexy
Maybe sending them to the NS will keep them level-headed
and boost the chance for local boys to hook them up for marriage instead of losing their position to mat sallehs!
