I come home and feel like there is this stupid pressure by everyone to buy condominiums all the time or queue for HDB ... it's like a fu-ken real estate nightmare!!!!

This pressure makes you feel like your home is no longer a home unless you UPSIZE! The hell with it!!
Ralf
You don't need a home.
You need a beach.
Swap concrete for sand and surf.

If you already have your flat then just relax. There's no need to upsize. But if you don't then I think you must, there's no way around it. Getting a home is a major struggle that concerns people in any country.

In fact in Vietnamese folklore, 3 biggest things in a man's life are: make (or buy) a house, get a wife, and get a car (actually, a transportation vehicle). One you're done with those three things, the rest of your life is just for relaxing and enjoy life icon_smile.gif

How about a tiki hut, a mermaid, and a surfboard ?

You think a tiki hut at a good location is cheap? icon_smile.gif

This reminds me of the other day waiting in some office somewhere and I had the chance to look closely at one of the paintings on the wall. It was a typical Oriental painting, with a high mountain in the background (peak in the clouds), a small river in the foreground (with some small boats) and to the side is a small hut looking down at the river. It was typical serene, tranquil scene of ancient times, with the idea being that you don't need a lot to feel happy and content: just a small hut (presumably you built yourself) on a big expansive piece of land in the middle of nowhere (which is presumably free, just need to go there and clear it yourself).

But nowadays if you think about it, a big piece of land in such a prime location? Priceless, as they say icon_smile.gif

Even Lee Kwan Yew wants his home demolished to make way for real estate development...... There is no sentimental value anymore attached to what we call home.

I will move to Msia or Africa where men have bigger hearts than dumbass American filipinocks!

I don't think it will happen (the demolition). I'm sure they're preserve it somehow.

If you look at the example of the big communists leaders, they all said they want to be buried or cremated, but in the end they all got mummified and put in a mausoleum. Not that LKY is a communist but I'd have to think it's quite likely his wish will be not be fulfilled. Maybe they can just take it and move it in its entirety to a new location.

Its probably because you've lived away from Singapore for so long. You've experienced different cultures and different ways of life and as a result your values and what you want/expect out of life has changed correspondingly.

When I go back to JB now, its like I'm in a foreign country, it will always be the place I was born and will always be special to me, but I can't live there anymore.
yana19384
i dont want to feel the same way like how swingdoctor describes it to be once i migrate out of msia
but i guess he is right
but i always want to love my hometown
its home to me cry2.gif

Ah, such luxuries that a warm tropical city can survive only with while they gather food or fish.
It's a different story with other places that have an extremely different season.

Looks like an Asian phenomenon. I was in Beijing recently. Everyone was talking about real estate... ALL THE TIME. Like a national passion.

Singapore has grown from a kampong (where everybody knew one another's business,) into a huge impersonal city, where every one minds their own business and don't give a damn about the next person.

Singapore is cool. It's supposed to be a respectable country. I heard it's hot as hell though, that's a downside to it icon_sad.gif

3 million seem to be happy enough to live there. The body adapts and you do not even notice it.

I prefer Home win 0-2 9 and 0-3 19
Both in poor form , but Home can score and Sporting cant score.

What is your choice?

Whats wrong "tangawizi" learn to love your country when hot and when cold.

Otherwise if you feel it has reached a point of no return Kenya is waiting for you.
You are most welcome to Noirobi.

The trouble is, as the world gets smaller, and the MAN gets bigger, the Singaporean does not know who he is. The question of identity is important. Are Singaporeans affiliated to Muslim Malaysia, or Indonesia, or to Communist China? There are those who think they can be all things to all men. You can't. Because then you will be nothing, like a minnow swimming in the Pacific ocean. But some people think they know all the answers because they grew up in that little pond Singapore, and that is as far as their vision takes them. The world is an infinite pond and the rules are different. If you are a minnow you get eaten up.
