Vietnam could be the next country vying to join the ever-growing Formula One calendar.

Hans Geist, linked in the past with F1 forays in Russia, Austria and Bahrain, has proposed a $150 million project to Vietnam's ministry of planning and investment. The proposal is for a Formula One circuit to be located near Nha Trang Bay in central Khanh Hoa province, according to vietnamvet.vn.

"The dynamic economy of Vietnam and tourism potential are good reasons for building a circuit here," said Geist.

He did not say when the proposal would move forwards but the report said construction would take three years.

"Formula one with more than 200 global brand partners will guarantee a professional business communication for Vietnam and its international recognition," added Geist. "It will certainly stimulate Vietnam's economy, tourism and infrastructure."

F1 development is a two-bladed sword which can be good or bad.

Because firstly,

F1 is only played by mainly European and a few Japanese racers.

F1 is a very specific and niche sport.

In other words, if Vietnam wanna open it, Vietnam will just supply land, amenities, human resource, and then..........just watch foreigners.

Secondly,

It incurs huge cost, initial and as well as maintenance costs.

Third,

It brings inconvenience and discomfort to the common people.

Because F1 is a very snobbish sport.

It is even more snobbish and exclusive than golf.

Very high cost to buy even 1 ticket of the lowest class.

And with lots of VIPs and important people coming to visit and watch, it means there are going to be lots of inconvenience to the common people, such as, perhaps traffic redirection, shops being forced to close early, and so on.

It will help build really nice roads for the common people. If roads are good enough for track racing they should also be good enough for normal every day drive.

the only real maitenance would be road surface maintenance.

Nope, It's all business.
All the crowd you see on the track will spend on their stay in Vietnam about $1000 per day in luxury hotels ,restaurants because it's the place where you show off.they account for 5000 people.
Now for basic fans ,you will see japaneses ,malays, europeans too.It won't be much pricey for me to attend a race in Vietnam or in England! You had thousand of japaneses who attended the maiden Korean Grang Prix because entrance ticket and airfare combined prices are lower than the Japanese Grand Prix ticket. You can expect some gains from them for food and accomodations

But the main important thing is the sucess of the race will edge Vietnam's international recognition as a modern country with wonderful landscape. I don't expect but looses but then again considering that the race will be seen by one billion people will see an Hi-Tech ballet associated with Vietnam for a big week-end every year . That's a big big advertising which on stage.
Now it's up to Vietnam to know it's willing to pay for such an advertising campaign.

Is it only proposed or has it been passed yet?
