Đêm Đông
(Nguyễn Văn Thương, Kim Minh)

Chiều chưa đi màn đêm rơi xuống
Đâu đấy buông lững lờ tiếng chuông
Đôi cánh chim bâng khuâng ră rời
Cùng mây xám về ngang lưng trời

Thời gian như ngừng trong tê tái
Cây trút lá cuốn theo chiều mây
Mưa giăng mắc nhớ nhung, tiêu điều
Sương thướt tha bay, ôi đ́u hiu!

Đêm đông, xa trông cố hương buồn ḷng chinh phu
Đêm đông, bên song ngẩn ngơ ḱa ai mong chồng
Đêm đông, thi nhân lắng nghe tâm hồn tương tư
Đêm đông, ca nhi đối gương ôm sầu nghiêng bóng

Gió nghiêng chiều say
Gió lay ngàn cây
Gió nâng thuyền mây
Gió reo sầu miên
Gió đau niềm riêng
Gió than triền miên

Đêm đông, ôi ta nhớ nhung đường về xa xa
Đêm đông, ta mơ giấc mơ gia đ́nh yêu đương
Đêm đông, ta lê bước chân phong trần tha phương
Có ai thấu t́nh cô lữ, đêm đông không nhà.

Người Ngoài Phố

Tác giả: Anh Việt Thu

Người đi đi ngoài phố
chiều nắng tắt bên sông
Người đi đi ngoài phố
bóng dáng xưa miệt mù
thành ghế đá chiều công viên
Ngày xưa, ngày xưa, ngày xưa đă hết rồi

Người đi đi ngoài phố
chừng bỡ ngỡ, bơ vơ
Người đi đi ngoài phố
mấy dấu chân lạc loài
h́nh bóng cũ người yêu ơi
c̣n đâu, c̣n đâu, t́nh duyên đă lỡ rồi

Thôi chia tay nhau từ đây
nghe nước mắt vây quanh
biết lỡ yêu đương
sẽ đau thương suốt cả
một đời, nhưng mấy khi t́nh đầu
kết thành duyên mong ước
mấy khi t́nh đầu
kết trong mộng đâu em

Xin từ giă đường phố trắng mưa mau
làm chim bay mỏi cánh
nước mắt đến tạ từ
thành phố cũ người yêu xưa
c̣n đâu, c̣n đâu giờ đây
xin giă từ, giờ đây xin giă từ

icon_smile.gif You have pretty good taste. I'm going to try paraphrasing because it's almost imposible to keep the same rhythm. and if there are those who think my translation sucks embarassedlaugh.gif2 please don't make fun of me.

Winter Night

Afternoon has not yet gone when the curtain of darkness falls
Somewhere, the sound of bells hung in the air
Birds flap their wings exhaustedly
Together with gray clouds stretch across the skies.

Time seem to have stopped in the fridgid air
Leaves stripped from branches flew in the direction of wandering clouds
Rain brings sadness and emptiness.
Fog drifts lightly, oh loneliness!

Winter night, xa trông cố hương buồn ḷng chinh phu ( I can't quite grasp this part, chinh phu is a widow?)
Winter night, at the river's shore stands someone lost in thought of her husband.
Winter night, the poet listens to his soul's whisperings
Winter night, the singer sits opposite her reflection in sadness

The wind bends the afternoon like a drunkyard in the night
It shakes thousands of trees
It billows the sails of clouds
It spreads eternal sadness
It howls and laments endlessly.

Winter night, oh how I miss a familiar road
Winter night, oh I dream of a loving family
Winter night, I drag my lonely feet
Is there anyone who sympathizes with a homeless in a winter night?

cố hương is your home town or your country that you have been away for so long....

chinh phu is a warrior or a soldier. Like someone đi chinh chiến ...

It is kinda tough to translate song to other language from Vietnamese since there are always some hidden meanings or double entre in most songs....

Basically, this composer wrote this song when he was away from home and was home sick. I think it was a Chrismas night that he wandered around the town and wrote this song. Poor guy, he couldn't afford to go back with his family on Christmas night,,,,just like me,,,,except that I cannot express this feeling into song like this dude..... icon_sad.gif

awwww I feel sorry for you icon_sad.gif

Hi Americanized Viet, those songs are Koreans, Chinese, Japanese origins. Therefore, there's no use to translate them, it's been translated. LOL.

Ah, thanks! biggrin.gif lhtv22 is right, old vietnamese songs are usually poetry put to music so the listener may have many interpretations.

To Sonnet,
You were wrong about the second sentence.
