Mien is what Viet call Khmers (Cambodian) people. It comes from the Chinese word Ca Mien, which means Khmer.

Yuon=Yue=Viet in Cambodian. Anyway, youn is not a degrading word. I think Thai and Laos also called Viet youn -- may be with a little different accent.

yuon is not degrading at all.. stupid white westerners think they know more about the khmer language than khmers themselves.. if they think yuon is a racist term than they should also consider mien a racist term also..

yuon is in no way a a racist term that khmers use towards vietnamese people from what ive heard. I think it just means Vietnamese person. But depending on what comes before the word or after it . It could be rascist or it could be really nice.

Anyone who is dumb enough to start these flame wars about khmers and Viets are just stupid and i think they should all cut it out. Honestly most of us Asians are here in a foreign country for almost the same reasons. War and tyranny. Why cant we just forget about what happened back there and all just get along. I have khmer and viet friends and they always tell me about their parents and that they hate theses people for this and that reason. But thats all in the past and happened like way before some of us were even borned. Why even think about it. As an asian community we are small as it is , why quarrel about things that are meaningless and just seperates us other far apart.

I dont want to sound like im preaching and im sure my post means nothing to people who are set in their ways. I just wanted to share my feelings. And put something positive in this post.
