I watch a "kiem hiep" (chinese emperor) movie one day and heard the guy call his dad ( in chinese) sound like "tia" which is many vietnamese people in the country call their dads. I am supprised to know that. I wonder which group of chinese people use that word ( if any one know )?

why would u be surprise? i thought vietnam had alot of interaction with china through your history.

I am pretty sure it is Cantonese. Dad in Mandarin is "Ba".
Many Kiem Hiep movies are made in Hong Kong.

uhm i haven't heard any cantonese people call their fathers "tia"

Sounds like everyone in the world calls thier parents in almost the same way.

No, Cantonese say "ba" or "pa" as well.

I used to watch a lot of Hong Kong movies and they call their father "ar tia" or something like that.

I think "tia" is for the people who live around Binh Dinh (where most Chams live).

"Tia" is from old Chinese movies.. I don't think any Chinese use it nowadays

Teo Chew people sometime call their fathers Tia, but like someone said earlier it's old Chinese. Most people now call their dads Ba.

Chinese call their father 'A Die'(mandarin)(sound like 'a tia') <阿爹>.
I think there is a cantonese equivalent.
Vietnamese probrably have the same.

a very very small percent call their father tia in Vietnam , mostly are bo^' or ba , i havent heard anyone call their father ti'a or cha . I think in the country side , they do that , not sure
