I watch a "kiem hiep" (chinese emperor) movie one day and heard the guy call his dad ( in chinese) sound like "tia" which is many vietnamese people in the country call their dads. I am supprised to know that. I wonder which group of chinese people use that word ( if any one know )?

I am pretty sure it is Cantonese. Dad in Mandarin is "Ba".

I used to watch a lot of Hong Kong movies and they call their father "ar tia" or something like that.

I think "tia" is for the people who live around Binh Dinh (where most Chams live).
PhoSoup
"Tia" is from old Chinese movies.. I don't think any Chinese use it nowadays embarassedlaugh.gif

Teo Chew people sometime call their fathers Tia, but like someone said earlier it's old Chinese. Most people now call their dads Ba.
MING-LOYALIST
Chinese call their father 'A Die'(mandarin)(sound like 'a tia') <阿爹>.
I think there is a cantonese equivalent.
Vietnamese probrably have the same.
