National flag? You mean the old South Vietnam flag? I think everyone will stare at you and ignore you. Vietnam has about 30 million young men and women that were born after the war, I don't think they'd give a crap about the old flag at all. Personally, I'd be embassed to wave that flag nowaday.
Why would you be embarrassed to wave that flag? I actually prefer it over the red one because it's original and has a deeper meaning...it's not a copy of the Chinese communist flag.
As far as I know, the yellow flag signifies our yellow skin and the three red stripes stands for the three regions (North, Central and South)...the stripes are red because it means we're all the same blood..we're all Vietnamese. I love it...it's so cool!
ddha, I think you should learn where that yellow flag with three red stripes originated from. The French patronized Vietnamese with that flag. It was never Vietnamese, it was from the French after they colonized our land.
Dividing a country into three regions is easier to conquer then a whole country as one. Basic military strategy.
As with the National flag, I was asking for everyone's opinion on the current Red flag with the yellow star in the centre. Sorry, I should have made that clear from the start. Sorry for those who already voted under a different assumption. My bad.
