I don't, the damn war is long gone, i rather look forward to the future than look back the past, eventhough i was born after the war and don't know what it was, but then i show no sympathy to those who raising war, but i dont' hate, we just do as we told, because it is our duties to defense our country, but like i said, its over, why hate? and i believe all of other Viets are the same, if they do hate, well then they better get a life. (just my opinion, no offense)
chosenone22
I don't know any Vietnamese who hate Hmongs. Maybe individuals who have problems with each other, but Hmongs in general because of ethnicity..nope. Other way around...yeah.

There are alot of Hmongs in the mountains of Northern Vietnam. I saw a documentary on National Geographic channel, and it took the travelers a few days to reach Lao Cai, the province where the Hmong people. It just goes to show you, how isolated from mainstream Vietnam these people were.
LaiSteve66
Most Vietnamese people around here (Houston) don't even know what a Hmong is.

Hmongs fought communists. Not Viets in general. Some Hmongs are also communist.

And NO, Viets don't hate Hmong, where did that come from?

Stop it with the name calling and labeling each other you uncivilized g@@ks. Must I bring the French man?

That's the problem with Vietnamese they're always fighting and killing each other. When they're not doing that they plotting about killing each other. They need outsiders to civilize them.

Vietnam can never reach prosperity because too many g@@ks running around. icon_wink.gif

Hmong used to be called Meo people. Most vietnamese never meet a hmong person.
petev1975
I lived in Minnesota for 17 years. I made a couple of Hmong friends. But there are somethings about Hmong youth culture that gets on my nerves, specifically the glamorizing of gangs.

Gangs are p.ussies who can't fight their own battles, so they need back up. It was weird for me to see so many Hmong kids be part of some gang. The bandannas, the color jerseys, the hats, the sagging pants. I found it more funny and annoying then scary.

But Hmong culture as a whole, I have no problems with.
fadedmofo
i never heard of viets hating hmong people, but i have heard of laos people hating hmongs.

The Hmong Soldiers, of the Vietnam War, were very brave and loyal troops.

They fought very well; without the Hmong Army, Laos would have been lost much sooner.

Many H'mong people in Vietnam have migrated to Bien Hoa & Central Highlands in the last few years. Actually, many ethnic Kinh people may not recognize the difference because some H'mong are very well integrated to Vietnam society and these people are far better off than an average H'mong. In Mai Chau, there are many Thai people there but I can't tell the difference between Thai & Kinh. In the last decade, many ethnic minority pubs have popped up in the North, especially in Hanoi where you can have things like "rượu Sán Nůng", "rượu Chít", etc. & there are many quite exotic food stuffs as well. I know about a girl who is half-H'mong and her father is a H'mong & her mother is a Kinh (the ethnicity of father is the ethnicity of the person in Vietnam), when she took the university entrance exam, she chose Kinh as her ethnicity at first but later she changed to H'mong so she can get 3 points added to her paper so she could pass the exam.

If you feel that strongly about it, go to the Vietnamese Embassy in Washington, D.C., throw yourself on your knees and beg. They'll most likely redirect you to the Laotian Embassy in Washington, D.C. It doesn't hurt if you throw yourself on your knees and beg everywhere you go, though.

That's ridiculous! A true hmong will never beg. I really don't think that Vietnamese in the US hate the hmong people but perhaps those in Vietnam as the hmong did much to halt their advancement into S. Vietnam. Besides, South Vietnamese people fled their country for the very same reasons. I only have problem with the country for denying its part in aiding the LPDR and human rights violations.
Byron
Ok.

It is like gamble. You pick the wrong side, you pay the price. The Cambodians were smart because they didn't play. Otherwise, they would have the same faith as the Hmong. laugh.gif
Byron
Not to mention during the 1980s with Vietnam's conflict with China.
jose cuervo
I'm just glad that the Vietnamese people were brave and resilient as hell (this does not apply to the ba que), or else we would have been like the Hmong without an country.

That's all I have to say about the Hmong.
yajthaugluv
Actually, you are right about having more hatred toward the Chinese but that was long time ago. Not only that it weren't just hmong people that suffered, there are other Chinese whom suffered the same losses too.

Also it does not give them right to pursuit old enemies after the war has already expired. If that gives them rights for revenge than the same can also be apply to the hmong.

You make it sound as if Lao and Viet own those lands but in fact they were colonized by the French and if it weren't for them there wouldn't be the country they're today. As I recalled didn't Lao, Thai, and Viet from China too?

Vietnam was a country long before the French arrived. Yes the French were the owner of those lands for about 60 years until the Vietminh kicked them out, so those countries now belong to Vietnamese and Laotians again.

If the Hmongs in Laos don't pick a fight with the Vietnamese, then the Vietnamese will not kill the Hmongs in Laos. All the Hmongs in Laos have to do is to stop siding on behalf of the enemies of the Vietnamese no matter what the enemies of the Vietnamese are - Don't ever lift a hand against the Vietnamese ever again. Which way do you want to go? If you want to play diehard, then you'll just die hard and harder. Live by the gun, and you will die by the gun. (Actually, 40% of the Hmongs in Laos sided with the Pathet Lao and Vietnam, and the Vietnamese are grateful).

As for the Hmongs in Vietnam, we think of them as Vietnamese citizens. End of story.
Byron
I hope Vietnamese people don't hate anyone.
yajthaugluv
That was over 30 years ago... If it makes sense for revenge maybe terrorism is what they want.
