Carrollton man wins $101 million jackpot

People who play the lottery know there had never been a Texas winner in the 11-state Mega Millions jackpot. Until now, that is.

The newest millionaire, a factory worker who came to the United States from Vietnam in 1984, is from Carrollton.

Ut Van Nguyen is now living the dream of American money after becoming the first Mega Millions winner in Texas. Nguyen spent $5 on tickets, and ended up taking the cash option of $62,060,880 on a $101 million prize.

"When I got home, I picked it up and checked it out," Nguyen recalled. "I cried like a baby ... I cried, cried, cried, and after crying for two hours, I walked in, out, sat down, stood up, drank some water, went outside, inside, (and) said, 'what am I going to do?'"

Nguyen, who claimed his prize with his wife and daughter and two nephews, plans to build a temple for his religious community in Duncanville. He will also take care of his family here in America and back in Vietnam, where he hopes to build a school and rebuild an orphanage.

"We're looking at a scenario here that's going to make a lot of difference in a lot of lives," said Texas Lottery executive director Reagan Greer.

Nguyen bought the winning ticket from this self-serve lotto machine at a Sack'n Save grocery store in Carrollton. The store also wins a million dollars for selling the winning ticket.

It's a lucky store; the same location sold one of five winning Lotto Texas tickets for $77 million back in 1994.

"I'll help some people over here make Texas better," said Nguyen.

Nguyen said he once won a lottery in Vietnam worth $20, which was a lot of money. Now, he knows that coming to the land of opportunity has paid off in a very big way.

Thats how the gov't makes extra money from the lottery. Get the 60 mil and let the gov't keep the 41 mil from the lump sum, or get money for 30 years and let it gain interest for the gov't hahaha. embarassedlaugh.gif2
