great clip, great song!

much better than the craps xigon posted. I think she has poor taste in music embarassedlaugh.gif
XigonCongchua
they weren't craps madgo.gif They were old music Talktohand.gif
XigonCongchua
We should translate this clip to English. It's so touching. Hail to the Vietnamese mothers!
higher
they look old enough to have fought the french?
asean.asia
One day our children will sing it to praise their ultra-nationalist mother xixon. kiss.gif

Vietnam is like China in having the history of sacrifice for communism. It's deep in people's hearts. You just have to play such a song to a crowd, and no one will want to get rid of their government.
asean.asia
More like sacrifice for vietnam independence. Atleast that is what vietnamese believe they've sacrificed and fought for. kiss.gif

True. But isn't your independence wrapped in communist symbols? independence=communist symbols=communist government
XigonCongchua
Seriously I'll try to translate this song sentence by sentence...It'll probably sound weird in English though. Any of you is welcome to help me making it sound smoother in english

First two sentences:

Let us sing to our Vietnamese mothers.
Let us sing to our heroic mothers

Next sentence
Đời dâng hiến giống nòi

Đời = life
dâng hiến is like sacrifice and devote
giống nòi = the race, the lineage

How do we make this sound right in English? She sacrifices and devotes her whole life for the Viet lineage?

nope.

it's not just the fight against the french, but also the japanese, the chinese, and the mongolian. biggrin.gif

You side with anyone who helps you achieve what you want.
Vietnam wanted independence, and the Soviet Union was able to give VN what she wanted.

The US/West pushed VN to the Soviet Union, so they got what they wished for.

then show me a song that celebrates fighting Japanese, chinese, or mongolian. icon_wink.gif
XigonCongchua
That song asean.asia posted was dedicated for the Vietnamese mothers of all time.
higher
I don't see any elephants or swords or spears icon_wink.gif
XigonCongchua
because the clip was made in the modern time. icon_smile.gif

Let me see, speaking of the olden time, we have songs about "Hòn Vọng Phu" (The Husband-Waiting Statue) which is about a woman standing on the mountain waiting for her husband to return from the war until she turned into a statue.
higher
I was talking about songs that evoke support for the current government. that support comes from the independence struggle by this government, and this history is wrapped in communist symbols.

I don't know why you want to turn the discussion to elephants or statues (which I suspect is taken from Chinese tale).
XigonCongchua
you've mistaken. The song asean.asia posted didn't provoke support for the government. It provoked the admiration for the Vietnamese mothers.

The nation and people of Vietnam is much more important than the government of Vietnam to me and to most Vietnamese. I don't care who rules Vietnam as long as he/she can make Vietnam prosper icon_smile.gif
higher
okay I guess your eyes are blind and you don't associate anything with the red scarf or the workers teams or the shoulder patches. wow you are pretty ignorant about your own culture lol...

anyway, why don't you transcribe the lyrics in vietnamese, we'll put it through google translate and try to mold it into a decent english translation?
XigonCongchua
Red scarf = blood ---> blood of everyone who has sacrificed for the Viet nation from the ancient time to the modern time beerchug.gif I don't associate the red scarf with communism.

In Vietnam, we were taught that the red color represents the blood of our heroes, not the color of communism.
higher
wow, you had a pretty substandard education lol
XigonCongchua
I went to one of the best schools in the entire Saigon embarassedlaugh.gif My school ranked 2nd or 3rd out of hundreds of school there.
higher
then how come you couldn't even understand my point lol... you only nitpick over words but you don't get the point of it.
XigonCongchua
Your point is the fighting for independence of Vietnam is tied with communism but to me it's not. The fighting for independence of Vietnamese people started long before the concept of communism was formed.
higher
it's not tied to your current government? your government doesn't use communist symbols? I never said you're loyal to communism, I said independence=symbols=your government.
XigonCongchua
yes they do use the communist symbols. but it only represents their party. it doesn't represent the independence of Vietnam.
higher
I see. you have no loyalty to people that gained your independence. no surprise to me. see my thread about honor.
beefnooodle
higher, please remove your sig.
atleast give reference!
