Digital camera will be produced in Vietnam

Local sources reported the Japan’s Sanyo Electronics, a leading digital camera maker, released that it would invest U$30 million in the construction of a production plant for low price digital cameras in south Vietnam.

The plant should begin operations in May 2005, producing 1.2 million units in the first year of operation, when the project is successful, consumers in the country will enjoy with digital cameras “made in Vietnam” in the near future.

I suppose what that Fuzhou Mayor is referring to is that Sanyo is not a top tier producer of cameras. This is NOT true, as Sanyo produces a lot of contract work (OEM) for big brands like Kodak, Sony etc.

Its people like these that give Chinese people a bad name. He probably hasnt even been outside of fu-king Fuzhou.

i haven't see any Sanyo brand camera in market..
but i do saw some video camcorders

that's good for vietnam. but i've never seen a sanyo digicam before.

They mostly do OEMs for digital cameras, meaning the design and produce the entuire camera and stick some brand name on it and sell it to the brand.

Kodak, some canons, sonys and HP cameras are OEM-ed by Sanyo.

I was in Vietnam in February and went to a Sony facility near HCMC. Sony has assembled digital cameras in Vietnam for long time.
