So a while ago I asked my Vietnamese friend what he thought about Ho Chi Minh, he got really
mad at me and said that he hated him because Ho Chi Minh had killed a lot of Vietnamese people among other reasons.

I was naturally taken about because I have a lot of respect for Ho Chi Minh. I mean the guy was a class act;
wrote to the president of the United States kindly asking for the liberation of his people, tried diplomacy and when it failed
he backed up his beliefs with the blood, sweat, and tears of a true man. More over this guy kicked America's @$$ in the Vietnam war.

So I'm curious as to what the Vietnamese community at large thinks of Ho Chi Minh.
Keep in mind that my knowledge of the Ho Chi Minh and the Vietnam war are wholly from an American perspective.

President Ho Chi Minh is similar to Emperor Gia Long and Emperor Quang Trung. They did what they had to do to keep the country unified.

Other wise, Vietnam would be like India or Korea, which is divided into 3 parts right now: India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh; and 2 parts right now: South Korea and North Korea.

The life and achievement of Ho Chi Minh is still shrouded in mystery, however he is more respectable compared to the VNCH parasites that overran southern Vietnam. Like other leaders in Vietnamese history, Ho Chi Minh had the guts to stand up against a superior enemy and give back dignity to the Vietnamese nation after a century of humiliation at the hands of the French ciminals. In a deep contrast to the great leaders of Vietnamese history, the parasites of VNCH brought in foreign armies to butcher the Vietnamese people, and poison the Vietnamese nation with their bombs and chemicals. Based on that history, I have the utmost respect for Ho Chi Minh regardless of his past and intentions, because no matter what he is better then every single leaders of south Vietnam combined.

Ok enough with the bashing, I simply wanted to know what Vietnamese people thought of Ho.
I stated what I thought of him based on what I know of him. From what little I garnered from his
biographies, he stood up for what he believed in and cared deeply for his people. That's respectable enough in my eyes.

Who is Ho Chi Minh? I've never seen a thread of discussion about him before. Finally something new to talk about. Something new to learn. I see progress. It's good that we're seeing something new coz I am tired of people talking about the same thing over and over.

I grew up hating the man. I was generally told of his evil doings but nobody could really elaborate on it. I guess they were told the same things and they were passing the hate onto the new generation. But as I grew up and read and study more about the man I actually respect him now. Nobody can deny that he loved his country and did whatever he could, good or bad to keep Vietnam for the Vietnamese.

i agree to an extent. during war time..he did what he had to do to defend his country..regardless if people viewed it as develish or not, there is not a set of rules when it comes to war, Anything goes.But he did give America a run for their money.
