It seems like nobody roll their tongue in the "r" anymore.

In Northern dialect, and Hanoi dialect, it is pronounced "z"
In Hue and Central dialect, it's pronounced as "sz"
In Saigon dialect, it's usually pronounced the r very very soft.
In the South dialect, it's also often pronounced as "g".

The GI's former in South Vietnam prefered their own "3 R"

Don't worry about Johanjit. He's mad because he's like Kerry, losing common debates. Haven't you notice the way he debate lately? He learns from President Bush, keep repeat same thing over. But President Bush's done it better.

Aw Si Fu, don't be a failed linguist because you can't convince us. Don't be a parasite for Vietcong when you leave France. Do something good for Vietnamese people please. Rise up against Vietcong oppressors.

nova, maybe we should cheer him up to bring him back to reality.

Ok si Fu, as same as American GIs, "r" for North Vietnamese Communists in South Vietnam are "Riet Nguoi," "Ran Xao" and "Ran Rit" (Giet Nguoi , Gian Xao va doc nhu Ran Rit) Do^` Thu' Du*~ you... Vietcong are very good at that...

VietNamDNCongHoa,
I don't know if you realised this, but that Flag you display was given to Vietnam from the French after they colonized Vietnam. It was their way of patroinising Vietnamese, giving them a sense of national pride, hoping that the Vietnamese don't rebel. And guess where Johanjit is from....................
I think you are blinded by the fact that Vietcong's are made up of Vietnamese people. Yes, 100% Vietnamese people like yourself. And not all Vietcong's are oppressors. Some of them actually fought for the re-unification of Vietnam, and they weren't in it for the money. So before you start randomly bad mouthing Vietcong in general, re-think of what your parents have told you about what they know about Vietcong's. Maybe they were brainwashed by the US government and passed it down to you.

Please stay on topic guys, must you drag the Vietcong and American into every discussion? sure.gif

The way we pronouce words change with times.. so I'm not really surprised..
ranmatatsumaru
I prefer to pronounce my "r" with a strong trill, like how it's pronounced in Spanish or Thai
DAI_VIET
You are wrong, the only people who can't pronouce the "r" are those that want to "dả giọng."

And I hate it when Viets know Vietnamese, but they pretend to not know Vietnamese. For example, if you freaking know how to read and understand Viet, how in the hell do you not know how to speak Viet? They usually say:

"Oooo, I don't know Viet, speak a little of it. I am so whitewashed right now."

Well, congratufu-kulations, you're whitewashed! Bull$hit!

Speaking the truth doesn't hurt, what hurts you south Vietnam loyalists is that you can't handle the truth.

No, I am not saying that the northerners "da giong," they speak that way. I did not specify any region, I am only generalizing those who can say it, but choose not to say it. I am saying that those who can differenciate the difference between other alphabets and the "r" but try not to use them are "da giong" people.
