LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- Singer Chris Brown, sought by Los Angeles police after an alleged domestic violence incident, turned himself in Sunday, police said.

Brown, nominated for two Grammy Awards, was a no-show Sunday night at the nationally televised awards show. He was scheduled to perform at the show.

His girlfriend, singer Rihanna, abruptly canceled her planned Grammys performance, but neither her spokesman nor the show organizers gave a reason.

"Rihanna is well," her spokesman said in a written statement. "Thank you for concern and support."

Police have not identified the alleged victim, who they said "suffered visible injuries and identified Brown as her attacker."

Brown, 19, and Rihanna, 20, were seen together Saturday night at a pre-Grammys dinner at the Beverly Hills Hilton, about five miles from where police said the alleged incident happened at 12:30 a.m. Sunday.

The police statement said Brown and a woman were in a vehicle near Hollywood's Hancock Park when "they became involved in an argument."

"After stopping his car, Brown and the woman got out and the argument escalated," police said.

After receiving a 911 call at about 12:30 a.m. Sunday, officers found the woman at the scene of the alleged fight, but Brown had left, the department said.

Investigators were treating the incident as a possible felony battery case, police said.

Executives with Brown's record label at the Grammy Awards told CNN they knew nothing about the incident and declined further comment.

Brown was nominated for two Grammys this year, including in the best male R&B vocal performance category for his song "Take You Down."

He also shares a best pop collaboration with vocals nomination with Jordin Sparks for "No Air."

The introduction to the CBS broadcast of the Grammys, apparently pre-taped, listed both Brown and Rihanna as performers.

No she isn't. She's a model in the celebrity sense i.e. the only reason she has had the opportunity is because she's famous not because she's though there are plenty of dodgy looking models anyway. She's not Gisele She's only done one catwalk hasn't she?

Not especially, there are times when she looks pretty good but plenty of times when she looks average or....manly. Her accent is annoying too. My point was Gisele is a supermodel, she does a substantial amount of modelling, that's her career. Rihanna does very little, she's not a model as such, merely a celebrity model if even that. It's like saying Charlize Theron is a model, she's a celebrity model not a Lima, Klum or Ambrosio.

R&B singer Chris Brown threatened to "kill" his pop star girlfriend Rihanna and choked her until she fainted when he allegedly assaulted her, according to a new report.

The couple began fighting in Brown's rented Lamborghini after leaving Clive Davis' pre-Grammy party late Saturday when Brown received a text message from another woman.

Brown pulled over in a swanky Los Angeles neighborhood just before Rihanna grabbed the car keys and threw them out the window, E! reports.

After struggling to find the keys, Brown, 20, then wrapped his hands around his girlfriend's neck and screamed, "I'm going to kill you," a source tells the network.

Rihanna, 19, reportedly told police she lost consciousness and woke up to find Brown gone.

Police answered a 911 call from a neighbor soon after and escorted the Barbados native to the hospital where she was treated for a split lip, contusions on her forehead and bite marks on her arms.

But Brown's sister, Lytrell Bundy, insists to "Extra" that her brother's an upstanding citizen.

"He's always been a good boy - never violent," she said.

Brown, she adds, is "coping ... he's doing as ... as to be expected."

The "Run it!" singer is reportedly staying with his mother in Virginia and attempting to reach Rihanna, who won't take his calls.

Brown is already seeing the fallout from the alleged incident: Wrigley has suspended his Doublemint ads, his "Got Milk" campaign will end this week and several radio stations are refusing to play his songs.

Rihanna has canceled several events in the coming weeks.

Never really noticed before but when you look at Rihanna it seems like her face has been taken over by her forehead and her features have been packed into the lower half of her head. Leona's facial features don't look like they've been pushed down by a massive forehead, maybe it's because of her head shape which appears to be quite long. Definitely wouldn't use the word gorgeous to describe her though.

LOS ANGELES – Despite his recently tarnished image, crooner Chris Brown may win an NAACP Image Award.

The 19-year-old singer, who's accused in a domestic dispute that reportedly involves pop superstar Rihanna, is in the running for outstanding male artist at the 40th annual awards. The awards are being presented Thursday night at the Shrine Auditorium and airing on Fox.

Brown won the outstanding male artist trophy last year.

Rihanna, his longtime girlfriend, is up for outstanding female artist.

It's unclear if either Brown or Rihanna will attend. Both canceled their appearances and performances at the Grammy Awards on Sunday night.

Other nominees for outstanding male artist are Common, Jamie Foxx, John Legend and will.i.am. Alicia Keys, Beyonce, Jennifer Hudson and Mariah Carey are also nominated for outstanding female artist.

Over 30 awards honoring television, film, music and literature are to be handed out in categories such as outstanding reality series, literary work, jazz artist, music video and documentary.

Television shows including "The Game," "Tyler Perry's House of Payne," "Ugly Betty," "Everybody Hates Chris" and "Grey's Anatomy" are nominated for multiple awards. "Cadillac Records," "Miracle at St. Anna," "The Secret Life of Bees," "Seven Pounds" and "The Family That Preys" are nominated for outstanding motion picture.

The 40th annual Image Awards coincide with the 100th anniversary of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and will kick off a yearlong centennial celebration.
