Chu nom- sometimes it looks ugly because of unproportional radicals.

Chu quoc ngu- too much driatics and the monosyllabic style pissed me off
fiji
Chu quoc ngu of course. Why keep the masses illiterate? But there need to be a change in Chu quoc ngu, as of right now we're just using what the european gave to us. It's not even accurate.
PHỎ-MAN
I dont like the chinese characters. You dont even know how you should prnounce them, because its just a bunch of strange lines, and they're too complicated for many viet ppl to learn.

Chu Quoc Ngu is at least a bit phonetic, easier for everyone.

I don't know if I like both, or neither. It depends on the time I guess, I wish Vietnam develops a writing system like Korea, but we haven't experienced too much peace times in order to think about those stuff I guess... but writing in Chu Nom and Chu Quoc Ngu are both cool too. It doesn't matter much as long as we don't change the words we use.. I've seen Viet Ngu instead of Tieng Viet in a website and I hated it!! madgo.gif stupid. Btw, I voted for both.

Chữ nôm, hands down! beerchug.gif
The advantage of using a logographic script is the ability to immediately know a word's meaning by seeing the chữ. A phonetic script on the other hand suffers from homonyms
VietNamDNCongHoa
Of course chu quoc ngu. it's easier to learn
jonii-wanwan
Chu Nom for sure. It would be more accurate for our language. Not to mention the advantage the next generation would have being able to read some of the Chinese characters.

i pick chu nom. it is such a waste of 2000 years of literature for some western made roman alphabets, i say use chu nom and chu quoc ngu hand in hand
dalawapo
what is chu no\m? ur writing script?

I would still pick Chu Quoc Ngu over Chu Nom. Alternatively, we can just develop another language altogether.

i would actually like to see another of our own scripts with our own characters too... and made by us.

wow this new upgrades looks pretty cool,, i mean the forum look.
dalawapo
why dont yall just use cham writing? its really cool! and then that is like the ultimate acknowledging their heritage which u conquered!

isnt that what is happening in myanmar? the ethnic burman conquered the ethnic mon but they are using mon script today?

it's not cool, it looks like drawing flowers and weirdish symbols.
dalawapo
icon_confused.gif i think it is one of the best looking writing script along with javanese, balinese, and thai
blank book
Both seem to have their advantages and disadvantages, but I'm used to Chu Quoc Ngu, so I'll vote for that. Yea, yea, weak logic, but oh well.

You're absolutely right, we should really change our writing system to conform with those that are more aesthetically pleasing....

Chăm wouldn't work because there aren't any tone markers
dalawapo
oh yeah i forgot cham is an monotonal language and viet is a tonal language.

well if u think about it, isnt mon a monotone language and the invading burmese spoke a tonal language? you can still sorta tweak the script right?

I suppose we could create diacritics or something to show the tones.
I don't really like Chăm though; it looks funny. Soyombo is better!

how about someone design a cool looking writing, so we can use for vietnamese.. and then post it up, lol something cool like korean lol..

I don't know; it's hard to create a writing system but I'll give it a shot!
the Lao script would work pretty well to write Vietnamese, neh?
tam_ca
ummm... neh... its looks like jiberish latin alphabets lol. some look like alphabets but written backwards, upsidedown etc. haha
July_Rain
I prefer chu quoc ngu
