VietNamNet - Right hand drive vehicles from Thailand are now permitted to cross into Vietnam for tourism purposes.

An agreement to this effect was signed at the second negotiation round between Vietnam and Thailand on this issue, which took place on September 22-23 in the central city of Da Nang.

Accordingly, both right-hand and left-hand drive vehicles from Thailand are allowed to travel Vietnam’s seven provinces and vice versa.

Cars from Thailand will go to Vietnam through the Lao Bao Border-gate in Quang Tri Province and Cau Treo Border-gate in Ha Tinh Province to Vietnam. From those portals, motorists can access Cua Lo Beach, Phong Nha Cave, Hue, Da Nang City and Hoi An.

Meanwhile, Vietnamese drivers can venture to Thailand via the same portals to Laos and through the Mukdahan, Nong Khai and Nakhon Phanom between Laos and Thailand to visit Pattaya, Bangkok and some other sites.

According to the head of Thai negotiation team, Somporn Paisin, the agreement should be approved and effective within 60 days.
