I have to confess, I am no MIT engineer. My Si Fu Johanjit has misquoted me. I think Byron and I have something in common. We're as dumb as door knobs.

Columbia University.
Major in Business Administration.
Class 2006 dropped out.

Yes, I dropped out. My dad could not find anyone to run his business. Plus I didn't like this liberal university anyway. Some Uni. teachers' views in gun control, stem cell research, abortion, and gay marriage had made me upset.

I am now working for my Dad' import export business to the Far-East.

Yeah...haha...you saw through my smoke screen of words. It's still a pretty easy job, pays a reasonable rate, and it's a short distance from my dorm. The time is also really flexible.

Damn...you're not dumb if you made it to Columbia plus you're probably making big bucks in business with your dad. Yeah...I'm having the same problem here. I'm afraid I'm becoming more liberal what's with all the things they're teaching in class... sure.gif . Business is a really vague major. I talk to a lot of business major and they told me not to do it unless I plan to go to a business graduate school. I got the coporate law part covered though. That's why I'm working towards a minor in economics. If you read a law book call "One L" about Harvard Law, the arthor recommended economics. Also, most Pre-Law program include economics in their suggested list of courses.

But I know what you mean. Corporate Law is where all the big bucks is ... but I'm also thinking about tort and social law. I'm tire of lawyers always being depicted as greedy people. There's lots of lawyers out there that's fighting for social justice. The Law is a great weapon for reform and social changes esspecially in a country like the US.

I think he makes between 90k to 100K+ a year. It's tough to be hired by those law firms though. According to him, you have to be like top 5 or top 10 percent in your class depending on the school you go to. He graduated from the University of WI and is currently working a law firm in SH. 100 grand and above if you go to an ivy law school. And even then, it's still pretty standard for most lawyers. But yes, $80,000 is a good starting salary for most lawyers when they just got out of school. Then again it depends where you decide to work. NY and Washington DC pays the most to lawyers (but living expenses are really high). If you work in smaller city, then you'll probably get less. I believe the nationwide starting salary for a lawyer is $60,000; someone correct me if this has changed.

After you have a long fruitful career the sky is the limit. If you're a Supreme Court lawyer (one of those big guns who argue in front of the high court), you can make $800/hr (read it in Newsweek). Those lawyers bring home a couple of millions. This is rare though...so don't go into law for the money...

Okay.  I just wanna see how many people are in college, when you'll graduate and what you planning to major in and what your dreams/goals are for the future.

I guess I'll start...

Duke University
Double Major: Political Science and History
Minor: Economic
Goal:  lawyer -->Politician --> foreign service officer

u gonna come to NC??? wow.. i lived like 2 hours away from Duke

I'm already in NC going to school. Durham is so boring.... bawling.gif

oh for real..that's cool.. durham is whole lot better than where i lived..
i probably going to UNC Charlotte or UNC Chapel Hill or maybe State...

have u ever been to Hong Kong Buffet before??

No I haven't. I been trying to find a non-Westernized Azn restaurant but haven't had much success. But yeah...on the weekend lots of student at Duke go over to Chapelle Hill because Durham is such a boring town.

how come.. i thought Durham is whole lot bigger than Chapel Hill... i have many friends go to UNC chapel Hill... are u vietnamese??

Visit Durham sometimes and you'll see what I mean. UNC Chapelle Hill got more of a party atmosphere, and it's a bigger college than Duke. There's also more AZN over there than here. Though this year 18% of the class at Duke is Azn.
