Hi! I am a student in Columbus, Ohio USA studying Vietnamese culture. I am assigned to conduct an interview with a Vietnamese person living in Vietnam or the U.S.

3. As a visitor to the country, would you exchange gifts at the first meeting? What gifts are considered appropriate? If flowers, what kind? (Some have special meanings.)

4. How are children educated? At what age do they begin school? Do boys and girls generally go to separate schools, or are they separated by sex in the same school?

2. People don't generally shake hand except for businuess. Children are expected to looks down when they see older people, or sometimes fold their hand too when they see older people. Hugging and kisssing are considered inapproriate outside the house.
3. People in Vietnam look products that are made from USA. Anything from USA are good but they shoudldn't be the "made in china". People give gift on occasions too.
4. Children go to kindergarden when they're 3! Girls and boys are in the same school. They have to wear uniform in middle school, and girl wear traditional clothes in High school. Education in Vietnam is very strict. According to the traditinal belief, "Tien hoc le, hau hoc van" meaning learning manner before learning literature, they usually learn manner first. There are very strict examinations in grade 5.9. 12.
5. The garbage are collected in morning or noon.

7. Foods that are generally not eaten in Vietnam are dairy food, but they're slowly entering Vietnamese culinary society

13.Divorce is look down, and are very low percentage. Vietnamese marriage is now westernized, but they still retain a lot of tradition.

15. Buddhism, a lot less Confucianism (way of life actually), Christianity-Catholic, few Muslims, ancestors worshipping.

People greet with smiles badteeth.gif- and if someone is really important they would bow and lick thier shoes. children are taught to be meek and should not talk back to adult, if so, result are being slap in the face with jack fruit skin or a blow to the face with large bamboo stick around 20CM in radius.

3.a visitor to the country should give respect, they dont give a damn about flower, either pay them respect or money to buy respect.

4.children are sent to school at the age of 2, boys and girl are treated the same, if you answer question wrong in class,consequently, you will be beaten by the teacher. couple of blow to the face and stomatch are commonly when the teacher are angry ,and the mother would get slap for giving birth to such an ugly child not to mention she have to pay higher taxs. Half of her rices she harvest will be taken away.

5. garbage can be dump anywhere, along rivers, lakes, and most anywhere. Organic grabage will be rots to feed the tree,meanwhile, plastic and other recycleable waste will be collected,remake, and import it to the us for dollar.

6.normal clothes is anything that covers you up. as long as you dont show your balls,@$$, and t!t$, then it is consider normal.

7.they dont eat froozen food, everything in that country is fresh and must be eaten fast before it rots, so everyday there are fresh food. no froozen $hit.

15.budhism is the primary religion, if you believe or worship anything other then buhda you would get beat up by a gang of monks and your house would be graffiti with phase like " buhda ownz you b!tch", stangely enough.

People don't generally shake hand except for businuess. Children are expected to looks down when they see older people, or sometimes fold their hand too when they see older people. Hugging and kisssing are OK anywhere as long as u feel comfortable to do it.

2. We bow to eachother, if in vietnam everyone has been taught manners and are taught to bow since young, if over in u.s. dont care at all, just smile or wave hand.

5. Most places they have people who has to carry the trash in a large large container, they have to run it by foot to the garbage place or bike it. In large cities they have trash trucks, and thats how trash are dealt with. Vietnamese people are dirty.

12. TeT is the most important, thats when everything actually matters.. decoration of house buying stufff, going home with family etc...

13. first the guy family does stuff at home like pray or cung or something to their ancesters and buddha for luck and parents say stuff to the son like son youve grown up i hope you goodluck on your marriage...then the guys family gets all these presents and food and goes to the girls house to pick her up, but they stay there and say stuff too. like hope you two live up to 100 years happily ever after and burn incense and stuff for the ancestors or buddha etc.. Then they leave to a restaurant where they reserved, and they get married there and have a huge feast and get drunk and stuff with their friends..the married couples usually wear the traditional vietnamese clothes at their wedding, but then at the restaurant they change to different clothes.

14. Vietnamese is the official and most spoken language, then probably english and then chinese are the other two spoken most, then khmer and thai and stuff are spoken only or usually by the minorities who live in vn.

15. The official religion of vietnam is buddhism, it is the most popular religion in vn currently about 70 - 80 percetn of the population, the other percentage are catholic/christian/muslim/caodai etc... almost all buddhists do ancestral worship or just ancestral worship.
