"One of historical victory of Vietnam National Football Team."

The other one if I remember correctly, Vietnam played against them before 75 and won. I saw this on an SBTN interview of one of the player back in the day.

I hear from some of the old folks, that back in the days Vietnam have one of the best soccer team in Asia. After '75 everything just went downhill. icon_neutral.gif

The VNCH team only won two international tournaments in its history, the SEA Games gold medal in 1959 and the Mederka Cup in 1966. Both were minor tournaments. In the first and second editions of the Asian Cup the VNCH football team participated in the final round, and finished last on both occasions, not exactly a result worth bragging about. The current Vietnamese team only started playing again in 1992, and considering such a short period of time VietNam did a good job catching up to other "top" teams in the region, as reflected by their 2-0 victory over the physically stronger UAE.

beating uae isnt really that good

recently UAE have been woeful but they are definately superior than vietnam. but they had beaten UAE when they were champions of the middle east so thats some feat. their player roster is nothing to boast about, but some of the managers such as mario zagallo (won the WC with brazil both as player and manager), don revie (managed leeds united during their golden generation), carlos queiroz (former manager of real madrid, assistant manager of man utd and current portugese manager) and d!ck advocaat (won the UEFA cup with zenit st. petersberg just last season) so they do have a history in comparison to vietnam

I agree. I don't know why the old folks keep glorifying the old VNCH sport teams and act like they were really great at sports.
