I know that Vietnamese usually marry Vietnamese or ethnic Chinese, but do they marry a Korean or Japanese? I saw a Vietnamese and Japanese sushi restaurant somewhere. Are Vietnamese and Japanese marriages common if some intermarriage happened between the two ethnic groups?

Nope, most if not all of Vietnamese intermarriages are with
1. Chinese
2. White
3. Khmer

Yes, They married japanese but not much to compare with chinese, korean and white. Vietnamese girls they do married educated khmer or khmer official only. Not khmer rouge. By the way, vietnamese man now are very opened. they married white, black, korean, chinese,j apanese, indian, khmer without consideration. the confucian in vietnamese are not important any more that is why they can married any races if they feel in love with.

Most viets I know marry fellow viets.
A lot of viets marry chinese because themselves are of chinese ancestry.

One of my friends got introduced to a Viet girl through chat and they loved each other. Believe me or not, he directly came to Ho Chi Minh City to meet that girl and marry. And they are happily living in Vietnam now.

Another friend of mine is living in central Vietnam. But he got a girl friend from Hanoi. He is planning to get married to that girl sooner in the next year, with the permission of their parents.

Wow, so much ethnic hatred for a topic like this. Hating one another, for any reason, and especially out of racism and prejudice, only brings anger, restlessness to oneself. Love, acceptance will make one feel much better.
Whom to marry, or be in a relationship with, is utterly a personnal choice. But I hope you do it out of true love, and appreciation, and not be limited by cultural views. Classify people, be it by race, color, religion, political views, and you will miss out on a lot of beautiful people in your life.

i think they're talking about trend, not a particular case. Japanese are famous for outside marriage and viet is the opposite ( statistics in the u.s.)

Sometimes its not always that simple. Some do it inorder to save their entire family from poverty. Sometimes its the ONLY way out for many of them and their family.

Not everyone is that fortunate to have the same opportunity that some of us have.

To what do you attribute success or failure to society? If I asked you, why are you successful at something. Many of you will say because I work hard and earned it. If I asked you why someone else is successful, many time you would say they're lucky. Think about it, many a friend come and show off to you and you say they're lucky. but there is no luck unless you won the lottery. If I asked you why you failed at something, many of you would say because I tried hard and I failed. But if somebody failed you say "what did you do wrong". An attribution theory. How many of you here succeed because you're lucky at something?
