It's time we take the initiative to lead the world with technology/knowledge/science/etc.

We are intelligent people and it's time to be the best and outperform everybody else and eliminate the competition. I dream of a day that Vietnam becomes a 1st world country without a lot of foreign aid, and also domestically producing our own goods, electronics, autos, and everything else. We can do it ourselves, we don't need help from others. I look down on people who doubt Vietnam because of the fact that it is a poor country and I'm sick of it.

Talk is cheap, so I'm gonna do my best to do my part and contribute my life into the field of automotive engineering research and design, and hopefully one day I'll be able to move back to Vietnam to work in my homeland.

I was always fascinated with anything to do with cars since I was a mere infant.

It's not the people that keep Vietnam poor, but the government there itself. The people are very intelligent, but the government keeps the country poor while the government officials and their families get richer.

You need to understanding that history and inherited wealth means way more than intelligence and hard work. The Third World is full of intelligent people who work harder than you and who will die poorer than you. There is nothing you can do about it, and there is nothing they can do about it.

Only when super powers collapsed then we'll be free from the shackle and chain. Either that or suck super powers' d!ck and they might trade, invest, or go easy on you with their policies. The world needs more chaos, destruction and death. When all the powerful and rich countries engulf in flame and vaporized in nuclear radiation, like death itself, create a path for new life. If there were any serious property rights in Vietnam, meaning that you could freely buy and sell your property without some government hobbledehoy coming along and stealing your land, Vietnamese people would have something to invest for.

Trouble is, they see government and bureaucrats screwing the system, so they think they'd batter grab what they can now and enjoy it while they can.

Short-term thinking like that doesn't provide wealth.

Well, here's a news flash..there are selfish and arrogant people in every nation in every corners around the world and yet many nations are richer and better off than a third world country.


That is a rather weak argument because there are way way more wealthy democratic countries compared to the 3 poor ones listed. But of course, you rather hold on to this belief to justify and defend a failed ideology.

What guarantees success is good leadership and governance with accountability and transparency.

If you compare the richest democratic country with the richest communist country, the answer is obvious as to which economic model and political system is better.

What's your definition of failing? Who said they failed? Wasn't Vietnam comparable to Thailand at the time? The communist took over and moved us 20 years back,then later to realized capitalism actually worked.

Also blame it to the Nguyen kings They were like one of the worst dynasty in Vietnam. OK that was a harsh comment, but the real reason we were still behind the Western world was b/c Nguyen kings were darn conservative. There were open minded people like Nguyen Truong To who implored the kings to learn and import technology and new ideas from the west, but the Nguyen kings didn't listen and executed them all. Japan and Vietnam were economically equal back then, but the Japanese leaders were smart and industrialize their nation (Meiji Restoration), while Vietnamese kings were too conservative.
