Yet we got no Olympics medal. bawling.gif
Clean
We sent in less than 20 people. embarassedlaugh.gif Vietnam as a whole probably doesn't have many sports facilities. Wasn't there an article that was posted about the first real sports facility in Vietnam or something embarassedlaugh.gif If we won a medal that would be one fricken high ratio of medals/person sent.

We'll improve.

I wish Vietnam the best of luck.
And hope China will be #1 in gold in 2008 beerchug.gif

China might dominate for gold, but for overall i think USA might still be #1. China might end up 2nd. Who knows.

We seriously needs to overhaul our sporting facilities and train athletes from a very young age like the Chinese.

Sporting achievements can be a source of national pride too.

I'm personally against that idea of forcing kids into sports at a young age. I'm more into the train on interest and parental guidence system.

China does well, but so what. What happens if one of those gymnastics champions had the potential to be the next Einstein but was restricted because he was forced into gymnastics rather than given the choice to do what he loved, physics... embarassedlaugh.gif

Plus, i'm more for a fitter nation as a whole. More gyms all around means better olympics, plus better health for Viets.

I dont know abt now, but back in pre 90s days, u had to train ur butt off in China. Guys and girls were "scouted" at early age, 5am starts and 11pm finishes...and severely punished if u were "wrong" one of my uni mates who was an ex gymanist told me this.

The prize money for a gold is enormous by Chinese standards...thats what keeps atheletes going these days in China.

Do they get benefits even IF they don't get on the olympic team? Cause if they're just thrown out that's quite sad. No benefits, so much time taken out of their day most of their academics probably aren't on par with their non-olympic training peers unless they had tutors or something.

Its an "investment". Just like those studying at uni hoping their hard work will pay off one day, but if u quit half way, u dun get ur degree, same deal there. There is nothing to fall back on if u dun cut the mustard.

China with its massive population cannot seriously have a welfare system, so this is cionsidered a luxury.

Many kids sadly are "sold" into the Olympic squads (virtually). The kids are often either from acrobatic families or rural areas where their parents cant afford to keep them. My friend was "sold off" sadly because his single mum couldnt afford to keep him.

In a country with so many ppl, the competition is so stiff, many u see there are the cream of the cream of the cream of the cream of the cream of the cream's cream of the crop. Some many "defect" to the West to represent in stuff like Table Tennis, Badminton, Diving or Gymanstics.

I guess in some ways it's a good thing. He could've been abandoned totally by his mom and just thrown on the street or left infront of some person's home just to end up being left alone to die of hunger... sure.gif

ehhehe yer, $hit already 3:30am here.

he said in CHina, "smart and talented" people struggle to make a living.

In Australia and the West, smart and talented ppl earn bucket loads, lazy ppl have a good life hehehe.

Asia is NOT a good place to be in, even Japan, u have to work a hella lot harder in life.

The West concentrates on giving u more of a "lifestyle" than higher wages.

I live in Canada, one of the places voted best place to live every few years. embarassedlaugh.gif

Talented people in Vietnam struggle too, it's because of the fierce competition, and in Vietnam, fierce connections. Who can compete with sons and daughters of Communist Party members?

Yea sometimes it feels like there are class divisions in vietnamese youth society.

If you're children of officials: even though you suck at schools, you will still get higher positions/ higher payment jobs than normal Vietnamese. embarassedlaugh.gif

Clean u don't know anything about chinese government, we don't force people to join sports nor military, all those people joined by their own willingess. and canada is not best place to live, the best place to live is Norway.

P.s. if u can get a gold medal in olympic game, chinese government will reward he/she at least one million dollars. the dude that who won the 110m Hurdles government rewarded him with 5 million dollars and china, taiwan, and Hk business people will ask him to do advertisement for their company products.
