There was a comment in another thread about how it would be funny if a certain Viet member found out he was part Chinese, so that prompted me to ask this question.
If I want to talk pure technicality, I'm sure I have some non-Kinh in me since we were all descendents of people from Africa. Heck, I even read an article how the first Chinese were actually Negritos (I made sure to send this link to emperor since he always talks about his "superior" han genes...lmfao
http://www.raceandhistory.com/historicalvi...irstchinese.htm ). What I'm trying to say is, none of us are really full this or full that. But practically speaking, we can exclude the 1/500th of our non-Kinh blood from this conversation. So for those who so far knows they're full Kinhs, what if you found out a significant side of you is actually not Kinh? For example, you find out your great-grandmother was half Chinese, so that would make you 1/16th Chinese. Or whether that non-Kinh side of you is Laotian, Cambodian, Hmong, whatever....the same question applies: would that change how you view yourself?
As for me personally, I've wondered whether I'm actually part Chinese or Cham myself. I'm a Pham, and I've heard that the Phams were actually Chams; but I knew that rumor was made up to flame Byron by a Cambodian so I didn't take it seriously...but I still entertained the thought of being part Cham. One thing I thought about was, how would I feel towards the Vietnamese if my great^7-grandfather was a proud Cham who was forced to assimulate into Viet Nam because Viet Nam destroyed his civilization. I placed myself in that scenario and I really don't think I would care much about my Cham blood that much and my loyalty lies 100% with my Kinh blood. On one hand, I would feel slightly ashamed for not staying true to my roots, but on the other hand, my real root is Vietnamese regardless, since I would be mostly Viet and it was a Vietnamese upbringing that raised me. But like I said, Phams descending from the Cham civilization was just a rumor and there were actually Phams in VN before the Cham civilization was assimulated...so I'm sure I'm not part Cham.
As for the possibility of me being part Chinese...I just have small eyes like them while most of my family have larger eyes, so that made me wonder if I'm part Chinese where the smaller eye gene only happened to turn dominant in me; but other than that, I haven't really come across any evidences that I'm part Chinese besides my drawing conclusions from weak correlations. But if I found out I was part Chinese for sure, the answer would be the same as the above.
I feel I should specifically state that I don't see anything wrong with being part this or part that - my reason for making this thread is that I'm just curious as to how people would react if they grew up believing one thing while finding out later that it wasn't true. Like I said, if I were to find out I'm actually part non-Kinh, it probably wouldn't change the fact that I view myself as a Vietnamese first and foremost, but I would keep in the back of my mind that non-Kinh side of me.

If i found out today that i have absolutely no Viet blood in me, and that i was fully Chiense, and it just so happens that Vietnam and China has another war. Killing Chinese to protect my motherland wouldn't bother me one bit.
Truth is, no one is full. You can consider yourself full if you know as a fact that you're 100% Viet on all sides of your family as far as memory serves or family records. Other than that you can't speculate too much, or you'll just end up being loyal to Nigeria instead of Vietnam. Because truth is, we all came from Africa at one time millions of years ago. We have our loyalties now.

Lol....let us know what she says.
My maternal grandfather keeps a very good record of our family history, and I'm going to make a formal family tree when I get the time so I'm going to know for sure my Kinh status for quite a few generations back..at least for my mom's side.

I am sure that I am full Viet, there's no way on Earth that I am part Chinese, Khmer, Japanese, or anything that's non-Kinh.
But if I found out that I am part Chinese, then I'd cry for 1 second and continue on with my life being 100% Viet.

I don't see how it would change anything. If all of a sudden I found out that one of my ancestor was a cham, heck makes that a cham king, I still wouldn't care. I'm not going to betrayed my other 99% ancestors for one that I barely know about.
I don't look down on other races, so it's not like I'm going to turn all crazy. Tell that to the chinese on this forums, I remember someone telling a story on here about a chinese dude that went to japan and put down the Vietnamese people, then the japanese dude saying that the Vietnamese is proud race for not fallen to a powerful China for a 1000 years, and that made the chinese dude ashamed because he was a southern chinese, decendants of the min yue.
This situation would be different if all of a sudden I found out I was 100% of another race, because then I would have nothing to connect with Vietnam, making me a lost cause, and only then would I go crazy. But I'm very sure I'm Vietnamese, both of my family side came from North Vietnam recently, and they all have very typical Vietnamese last name.

I think what you're talking about is being RAISED Chinese. If i was raised Chinese, then i would be Chinese of course. But i wasn't, i was raised Viet, and so, because of that, even if i do turn out Chinese it doesn't change the fact that my loyalties are always with Vietnam... then Canada.
You said point of VIew, that's from how you're raised. Point of View doesn't involve blood mostly, usually how you're raised.
