before the advent of p2p (peer to peer) like Kazaa and winMX, stuff was tossed around in IRC channels, but to many this is a confusing system to use and i have noticed many dont know how to use irc or ever heard of the term.

files tend to usually always pop up on irc before p2p and the new stuff comes there first

there are tons of movies and mp3s floating around - i got my 3rd Ngoc Ha cd from here and 2 Hong Nhung cds too

though ive slacked off cause its too much work for dialup - i just get the occasional mp3

to use it:::::::

ill use irc.vncentral.com as my example

download "mIRC" (the most popular used irc client) and if your in the mood get a crack - lol

once installed and started a pop-up from the program appears
1) fill out some sorta e-mail, name, and choose a nickname (screen name)
2) go the the servers settings and click "Add"
3) make a name to describe it like "VN Central" and plug its server in which is "irc.vncentral.com"
4) click ok
5) click the lightning icon in the upper left corner
6) you'll log in successfully if things are ok and then a pop-up asks for a channel - you can close this if you dont know any channels
7) click the "list channels" icon (4th from left)
8) double click the channel u wanna enter (the 2 most popular ones on the top of the list are where i wander)
9) to find peeps that offer files type "!list" - a lotta text pops up in most cases
10) to go into those available peeprs servers find the lines: "Trigger:[XXXXX]", just paste the "XXXXXX" and hit enter
11) if there is something like "Trigger:[XXXXX , 11111 , aaaaa]", then you actually have 3 different places to check out not one, so paste accordingly

ok so your into their servers now
1) to see what files and folders they got type "dir"
2) to go into folders type "cd FOLDER NAME"
3) use "dir" again to look at the folder contents
4) to get a file type "get FILE NAME"
example of what u might see:

<SERVER OWNER USERNAME> some sorta file.mpg 467756128b

to get that file you would type "get some sorta file.mpg"

remember to copy and paste to save typing time (you dont have to press ctrl c to copy - just slide your mouse cursor over and its auot copy)

hope that helps - those are the basics to get files

on how to upload i dunno yet - haha

other than that its also a normal chat client and just chat like crazzzzzyyyyyy

also note that you might often get booted from a server - thats not a problem cause its a built-in setting people have to keep campers off their servers. there is something like a 30 second idle watcher and if you idle you get booted - just log in again to that file server

I've had several problems so far, could you help me out with them? When I'm doing a get-file, I receive an error message saying this type of file is on my block list, but I deleted all file types from my ignore list and even disabled it; but still get this warning. Do you know what's wrong?

Also, I keep on getting disconnected and would have to go back to the channel, type the trigger again. A little of a hassle - is there a command to quickly reconnect to the server in one step?

Lastly, for now, is there a way to search for specific files? You said you d/led some Ngoc Ha and Hong Nhung CDs and I would get to get those too. Or is it more of a d/l-what-you-can-get-and-stop-being-picky-thing with mIRC?

So as of yet, I haven't been able to d/l anything.

I've downloaded a keygen for those who don't know where to look or don't want to risk getting a virus; to get the serial number, PM me. When you get it, click the About menu in mIRC -> Register and enter the name / serial# I gave you.

lol u can get rid of the technicolors by going

tools > options > irc > messages > then strip the options you dont want appearing

for the getting kicked part this may help

tools > options > irc > check those auot rejoin options you see

about your block files... i dunno

they setting i use are
tools > options > dcc > i turn on auto-get and auot-accept
tools > options > dcc > ignore > method is accpet only, nothing in the filetypes (its blank)

to find specific files type "@find SOME NAME"

so if i wanted ngoc ha i'd go @find Ngoc Ha

but i would also go (because irc searches filenames not mp3 tags) @find ngoc_ha and also @find ngocha just to cover my options

about u getting disconnected, i think that's normal, i get disconnected to after the servers anti-camp control. usually i hit some letter on the keyboard and hit enter so that the server thinks im active (even if you browse up and down a server, without keyboard input - the server thinks you're idling)
