VietNamNet- At 8:30pm August 17, Tan Son Nhat International Airport’s customs discovered 0.5kg of heroin in the luggage of an overseas Vietnamese, the biggest case thus far this year.
The person carrying the heroin was a Vietnamese-Australian woman, Tran Thi Hong Loan, 32, who was about to fly from HCM City to Australia.
As customs officers were fulfilling exit formalities for Loan, they detected a container of hair spray with an unusually heavy weight. As the spray can was opened, they discovered a 440g foil bag containing white powder. Quick testing on the spot showed the powder to be heroin. Loan later admitted that she was transporting heroin.
Customs officers have handed over the subject and evidence to police for further investigation.
So far this year the Tan Son Nhai Airport’s customs have detected 23 cases of illegal transport of narcotics.

Theo lănh đạo Chi cục Hải quan Sân bay Tân Sơn Nhất, đây là vụ bắt “nóng” số lượng heroin lớn, sau vụ phát hiện Công ty giao nhận Thiên Phúc (xuất ủy thác cho một tư nhân tại Đài Loan vào ngày 11/7/2003) phát hiện trong 2 chiếc loa thùng chứa 4 gói bột trắng, tổng cộng 2180 grams heroin. Tiếp đó 4 ngày sau (15/7/2003) bà Nguyễn Thị Ánh Minh, quốc tịch Việt Nam, xuất cảnh đi Đài Loan cất dấu 700 grams heroin trong phần đế giày cao 10cm.
Theo số liệu của Hải quan Sân bay Tân Sơn Nhất, từ đầu năm 2004 đến nay, Hải quan sân bay đă phát hiện 23 vụ vận chuyển tân dược có chứa chất gây nghiện, hướng thần (1 dạng thuốc gây nghiện): bao gồm 15.100 viên tân dược gây nghiện, 30.400 viên tân dược hướng thần; 11.400 viên NeoNiridina (có chất ma túy), 11.960 viên Ozila (chứa chất ma túy). Ngoài ra, Hải quan cũng phát hiện 9 vụ nhập lậu điện thoại di động, số lượng 93 chiếc; 3 vụ vận chuyển linh kiện điện thoại di động, trị giá 1,5 tỷ đồng…

The son of my coworker's friend got caught with cocains that covered 4 to 5 large dinner table. He's considered a bright kid in the sense that he got his masters from a prestigence college, used to worked at microsoft making crap load of money, and had women on him like flies on rice, but I guess he wasn't too content with things. oh well, thrill seekers will be thrill seekers.

No not at all. There are so many cases (my family even know a person got caught and executed) that I'm sick of it to the neck.

Execution for 0.5Kg. That is pretty harsh. Playing with your life for just a few grand, now that is just stupid, but I guess the value of money transcends the value of life when you are in this business.
If you are going to smuggle why not make it worthwhile and go for like 50kg or something cause you're gonna be executed anyway, not that I am encouraging such acts. :genius:

unfortunately, you are right. when i go through VN airport customs, i always slip a ten or twenty into my passport for them. they see it, smile, and get your paper work done for you in a hurry. at da nang, one of the customs officer even left his post to help me with my luggage.
on the flip side, if you do not slip them some money, they'll hassle you hoping you'll hand them something. not that i condone this practice, but i rather not get searched for reasons other than security.

.5kg of heroine is quite a lot, however I don't I am not sure if she will be executed or not. The amount is certainly enough to warrant the application of the death penalty (the quota in China for drug peddling is a mere 50 grams let alone 500). However, with her being an Australian citizen, it maybe just commuted down to life in prison.
The drug runners are seriously playing with fire in this case, especially if you are actually dealing with fairly honest cops. There are big signs in almost all airports in Asia which say drug smuggling carries the death penalty.

The fact she is an Australian citizen would be a problem for the Vietnamese authorities to carry out the death sentence. Although Vietnamese - Australians don't need these type of people. Not welcomed in Australia, nor Vietnam.
