Iam not great in it , I speak it when neccessary... its not just with Viets , I know Cantonese, Slovenians , Indians ,Hakkas, they mostly speak english unless they have to speak their native language... I guess they just feel more comfortable with English..

of couse because everyone around u mostly only speak one language the same as you and thats english, if it was vietnamese then that would be ur most favorite and easy to speak. Some people just feel shy using vietnamese because of not using it except at home.

dude so i was like at a small gas station and i see a candy bar for 79 cents so i stuck a 50 cent (fiddy cent baby!) price tag on it and the cashier rung it up at 79 cents and i was like speaking viet and she (who was not viet) was like ok ok uh 50 cents it is. and i take out all my pennies and count to 50 and i walk away only to swindle another day. speaking viet has its uses in the US!!
cali99boy
thats kinda like me. I mean I understand it quite well, its just I don't speak it that well so I don't want to look stupid trying to speak it. Like sometimes I'll be speaking Vietnamese to my parents trying to explain something than I get stuck cause I don't know the word and get frustrated and get say it in English embarassedlaugh.gif

This is part of the reason why my family think I'm this antisocial kind of guy. I'm not. It pisses me off. Its just I don't talk much to them because I don't want to speak English to them because it just feels weird to do so, but I can't speak good enough Vietnamese to hold a good conversation or joke around with them like I do with my friends. So I basically just don't talk to them much. icon_redface.gif
