Just a change of topic. So post any pictures that are related to Vietnam like the thread title suggests.
No political stuff in here.

I was on the new 7 wonders website and saw a picture of Fansipan Mountain in Vietnam. It looked breathtaking, and I'd never heard of it, so I googled it.
The top 3 nominees out of 77 for the new 7 natural wonders are currently in Vietnam.

While I was googling Fansipan, I found some absolutely amazing pictures of Vietnam. I would love to tour Asia one day, and Vietnam would definitely be one of the destinations.

I also remember once seeing a picture of a natural lotus pond surrounded by sand, but I don't know the name of the place and googling it was no success. Can anyone help me with the name of the place? The picture looked like it had a lotus pond in the middle of a desert.

i actually climbed to the top of Fansipan. it's a 2 day journey. the view along the climb is very beautiful. At the bottom of Fansipan, you see sub-tropical forest. In the middle, you see bamboo forest. As you gets higher, the bamboo gets smaller and smaller.

Fansipan is part of the eastern end of the Himalayas with very interesting geology. The geology there is quite different from other areas of Vietnam.

In my opinion though, Halong Bay is still most unique and magnificent.

you climbed to top of that mountain? YOU'RE SO LUCKY

icon_smile.gif nice. If you are enthusiastic mountain climber you can try Ngoc Linh mount of the Truong Son range, which is the highest one in the South and is located on Kon Tum province. The area is pretty untouched by tourism, but you will probably need a permission or you should go in a big group of at least 10 or so. At the moment, there is no organized tourist company operating in the area, but you can get the commune chief, who is an ethnic Sedang minority, to arrange some dân quân and local guides for you icon_wink.gif You can go on dry season which starts from March, local people told me that you can see the sea when standing on top on that mountain. If I have money, I will build a temple on top of that Indochina crossroad. icon_smile.gif

The legend says that this was the place where a Dragon descended from Heaven to help Việt people fighting the enemy. When the invaders’ boats were rushing to the shore, the dragon sent out from their mouths a lot of pearls, which then turned into thousands of stone islands emerging in the sea like great walls challenging the invaders’ boats. The fast boats couldn’t manage to stop and crashed into the islands and into each other and broke into pieces. After the victory, the Dragon didn’t return Heaven but stayed on earth at the place where the battle had occurred. Hence the name of the place is Hạ Long Bay. Hạ means "descend", Long means "dragon" ~ Hạ Long means "descending dragon" icon_wink.gif
XigonCongchua
Actually you guys know what? The legend of Hạ Long Bay might have been related to the battle on the Bạch Đằng River with the Southern Han navy.

Look at this map and see where the battle of Bạch Đằng is

Now look at this map and see where Hạ Long city (TP Hạ Long) situates. Below Hạ Long city is Hạ Long Bay. It locates at about the same place the battle of Bạch Đằng took place.
