Anyone with parents who fought in the Vietnam War? Do they ever talk about it to you? My dad never says much even when I ask.
film4reel

Your comment does not make any sense. Please elaborate on your statement.

Then start to make sense from it. Either you don't know or you want to cover up that Nguy are US hired troops. kiss.gif

my parents didn't
but my grandparents did, so did my great-uncles

my grandparents talk about it once in awhile, but with humor not with hatred
my great uncles are different.

You need a history class... i suppose that's why many of them are still protesting in the U.S. against the current regime in VN b/c the US is still paying them.

I hope that's not what they're teaching you back in VN.

Only one with out answers would turn away from a healthy discussion and start attacking the person personally.
asean.asia
If he is dumb, I will say straight out that he is dumb.

I don't see anything wrong with being straight-forward, nor do I want to waste any further time with simple minded people. Just that my fingers get itchy sometimes. kiss.gif

How is calling someone dumb will help your case in this thread? Why is a Vietnamese trolling a Vietnamese thread?
XigonCongchua
he meant that the US spent billions of dollars on the Vietnam War
the payment for South Vietnamese officers and soldiers mostly came out of US pocket

QUOTE(XigonCongchua @ Feb 22 2008, 07:26 PM)
^ why?

most veterans, regardless of what side they fought on, do not have any good feelings/memories about the war.

...btw an unjust war the u.s. had no business in waging again vietnam.

And how does that apply to the question or answer in this thread? Is is alright for me to say "Damn those corrupted Vietnamese official in every Vietnamese thread I see"?
XigonCongchua

Because he is unproductive and is hindering other members ability to enjoy this type of discussion. If he only attack me I would ignore him but since he basically attacked a group I cannot ignore it.
XigonCongchua
^ would you want to turn this thread into a fight?

Where did I said I want to fight? Have I personally attack him anyway? I simply criticize his comments as unproductive and provoking which will force other members with different point of view to flame each other as other threads in this forum.

MY GRAND FATHER FOUGHT IN THE WAR
MY ANCESTORS FOUGHT IN THE WAR

I HAD COUSINS FOUGHT IN TWO SIDES OF THE WAR

AND I know their attempt is the freedom of Vietnam
No matter which side did the soldier take
Their doctrine, their ideal are led by their patriotic.

I don't think the intention of the topic starter was to stir up the hatred between North and South
but I totally agree with your statement about the soldiers though

then why don't YOU ignore Nha? instead of telling him to ignore that ignorant Asean? purpose of a discussion forum is to DISCUSS.

my father fought in the war. saw his whole troop died. spent 7 years in "re-education" camp. the whole nine yards. but he never speaks much about it. no hatred. no protesting on the streets. because it's OVER. we're living in America and doing much better than we could ever have been in Vietnam. There is no more North / South, who's better - who's not. There's just a prospering "socialist" Vietnam with underlying capitalism and then there's Vietnamese abroads being productive to society. Living in the past benefits no one.

Dumbs and idiots are often straightforward indeed. So people should not waste time with them.

Almost everyone (except me and my brother + cousins) fought in the war, including my aunts for the north. I know that my dad and his brothers were ranked pretty high and spent most of the war on the parallel, the rest just worked/defended the trail.

My father fought in the war, as a pilot. Also went to re-education camp. Although, he never talked much about it growing up. In fact, I didn't know he went to re-education camp until recently, when discussing the war with him. I guess it's something he just doesn't like talking about. I just know that his parents owned a huge plantation and business but much of it was seized by the government in their effort to impose communist ideology. He is still very angry about that. But one day I will gain back his family's fortune when I become really wealthy and successful! =)
