Anyone with parents who fought in the Vietnam War? Do they ever talk about it to you? My dad never says much even when I ask.

You need a history class... i suppose that's why many of them are still protesting in the U.S. against the current regime in VN b/c the US is still paying them.
I hope that's not what they're teaching you back in VN.

then why don't YOU ignore Nha? instead of telling him to ignore that ignorant Asean? purpose of a discussion forum is to DISCUSS.
my father fought in the war. saw his whole troop died. spent 7 years in "re-education" camp. the whole nine yards. but he never speaks much about it. no hatred. no protesting on the streets. because it's OVER. we're living in America and doing much better than we could ever have been in Vietnam. There is no more North / South, who's better - who's not. There's just a prospering "socialist" Vietnam with underlying capitalism and then there's Vietnamese abroads being productive to society. Living in the past benefits no one.

Almost everyone (except me and my brother + cousins) fought in the war, including my aunts for the north. I know that my dad and his brothers were ranked pretty high and spent most of the war on the parallel, the rest just worked/defended the trail.

My father fought in the war, as a pilot. Also went to re-education camp. Although, he never talked much about it growing up. In fact, I didn't know he went to re-education camp until recently, when discussing the war with him. I guess it's something he just doesn't like talking about. I just know that his parents owned a huge plantation and business but much of it was seized by the government in their effort to impose communist ideology. He is still very angry about that. But one day I will gain back his family's fortune when I become really wealthy and successful! =)
