well my boyfriend is going to vietnam (HCM City) in two days...and im going to phnom penh, cambodia the day after him. basically we want to go on vacation together before school starts but i wont be able to go if i tell my parents that...they are very strict korean parents and also kind of racist against vietnamese people (ugh dont ask me why..i dont get them either). anyway, so i lied and told them i was going to phnom penh for missionary reasons and meeting a friend...so now im in the mess of having them dropping me off at the airport...me getting to cambodia knowing not a single soul.
sooooo basically my question is...is it easy to get from cambodia to vietnam? what mode of transportation would be best to get to HCM City? how much does it cost? is traveling alone safe or should i bring my pepper spray?

yes i bought a visa for vietnam...i guess i will try to get a flight directly there...do they still have flights even if its so close? hopefully i can get one that is available...if not ill take the greyhound...or whatever the equivalent to taht is over there. i was just worrying about border control and if its strict of whatever between the two countries..

Why didn't you stop at bangkok, then Vietnam, it would be much safer. Cambodia is kinda lawless and for a girl to travel by herself, I'm a bit concerned for you. Or why don't you ask your bf to fly to Phomn Penh with you, then to VN. I still think it's unsafe for a girl to be traveling around like that.

Your best bet is to find a white person and go in front of him. Usually the customs don't want to bother the white person so when they exam you, it will be very fast so the white guy won't have to wait very long since it's very difficult to get a bribe from a white guy since they can't speak Vietnamese and for some reason they love sucking up to the whites.

There's a Korean section in Saigon (HCM city) since there're a lot of S Korean doing business in Vietnam now. So you should be OK there. I wonder why you have to stop over in Cambodia? You can stop over in Hong Kong or Taipei, no?

The man and woman, aged 24 and 25, were asleep in their bungalow with a 21-year-old British woman when the thief broke in early Wednesday, Tak Vantha, deputy police chief of Sihanoukville, told AFP.
"While he was stealing their money, about 500 dollars, the Canadian man awoke and fought with him before the woman also woke and joined in," he said.
He said the woman was seriously hurt but her companion suffered only minor wounds. Both were admitted to a Phnom Penh hospital.
The guesthouses in the area, on a headland of popular Occheuteal beach, were illegally built, he said. "There's a lot of forest and rocks around."
Five Japanese women were being robbed at gunpoint in their hotel room in the capital earlier this month.
Muggings are common in Cambodia, where a sense of lawlessness and gun culture remains after decades of civil war that ended in 1998, but such serious attacks on foreigners have been rare.

man, that's how old forks are, they just have thier own program, but whatever it is, just go with your heart and mind. Like my parents, at first they don't want us to marry or date any other ethnics, but well, we convinced them and they don't care about that much any more. They don't mary the one that we're going to marry, we are the one that live with whoever we're marry right? shiet, they just want me to finish my degree, get a good job, then i can do whatever i want, they won't interfere, and it is cool that i'm getting there. But it's kinda tough to make everyone happy ya know, especially our parents, they just want the best for us, but sometime it doesn't work out and gets very annoying.
BTW why don't you ask your travel agent to change the ticket, instead of flying to Cambodia, you go straight to VN, they will do it if they want them to.

Speaking about Cambodia, it is fu-kING dangerous I tell ya, I've personally been there like once (near border w/Vietnam). They hate all Viets I tell ya...

dont go vietnam, that country is a mess. after you step into their land, the dong chi vietcong be mocking at you like crazy then you need to give them some money. their airport is full of bunkers and old war planes, way to ghetto and you difinately not going to feel comfortable with them. then you also have to watch out, a lot of peoples been kidnaped infront of saigon airport. where phnom penh international airport is way better and safe.
