I've seen Vietnamese people eating blood jelly made from blood of ducks, crocodiles and snakes etc.
What do you guys think about this practice? I think it's very unsanitary and could be prone to diseases. In another word, it's DISGUSTING.

Blood jelly eh! well i know my dad likes to eat some raw meats with tortilla chips an some greens with peanuts on em and real blood and i was like Dude. come on dude. but jelly hmm i believe, now i may be wrong, but this jelly see, i believe jelly is the perfect medium for cultivating bacteria and other microbial lifeforms although the kind scientists use is agar jelly which actually has some nutritional benefit to the little critters but as to your blood jelly thing. well, i will never ever try it unless someone swapped my cherry jell-o with the stuff. p.s. do snakes really have blood in them?

I love it. Yum. *i'm serious*
I haven't gotten sick from it yet, never heard of too many people getting sick from it either, and if it can get you sick i'm pretty sure the government of Canada would've said something about it already.
It's good depending on how you cook it, and it better be fricken fully cooked. Just thinking of it being half cooked gives me shivers.

Oh man what if the blood had AIDS or something and it wasn't cooked right? I know you can't get AIDS by eating it but would you eat blood that was AIDS infested? Or maybe you might have a sore or a cut in your mouth that you aren't aware of and the AIDS might enter through there when you are eating it.

My friend told me once that AIDS came to this world because someone in Africa did it with a monkey. I don't think it's true though.

that's certainly been suggested... no one really knows how this virus came about. but i was just talking to my med-school friends and they were saying that the drugs are so good nowadays that the virus will most like be controlled with a cocktail.
btw. nothing a good beer couldn't cure.

They way they extracted it is kinda barbaric and cruel. I saw tapes of how they'd take blood from crocodiles and dogs. They bloody poke a metal spike into the dog and the blood runs out into a bowl. Slow death if you ask me.

Really, it's not that much different from blood pudding. Although this may sound strange to us today, "blood pudding" was a common dish during the earlier part of this century in many countries, even America. That's because when a hog was slaughtered, nothing went to waste.
