Foremost, I will avenge my country,
Second, I will restore the Hung lineage,
Third, I will avenge the death of my husband,
Lastly, I vow that these goals will be accomplished.

I think the story of Hai Ba Trung is very interesting since it's a mixture of myth, love, vengence, and history. I read some Chinese sources and their history says that they captured and executed the two sisters, whereas Vietnamese sources indicated that the two sisters jumped into the rivers to avoid capture. It is also interesting that the two sisters used the drums and its beat to unify and encourage the people to fight against the Chinese. Later, the Chinese general after defeating the two sister went on to seek and destroy all the drums they could find since it was thought that the drum presented the people and culture of the ancient Vietnamese.

Also, I think the story of the two historical/national heroes along with myth and fairy stories of Nguu Lang/ Chuc Nu and Truong Chi/My Nuong indicate a culture of matriarch where the female is powerful and rich while the male counterpart is poor. It is totally different from the Western fairy tales where the charming prince always come to the rescue.
