I think the communist goverment flag makes Vietnam looks like a province of China .

haha - i think the commie flag is an international design by roots but the chinese made it world reknown so that why lol

me - i like the oldskool flags of Dai Viet and the ones Hai Ba Trung carried on elephants

these new ones are ok - we need one of internation specs for political matters, but the yellow and red stripes and all the derivatives - arent they french designs? - ima not to clear on this

I don't know but it's obviously that the Vietnamese communist government copied it from the Chinese

Viet cong's flag.

There were three flags.

The northern communist one is the official one

The one Byron has is the Viet cong ones (who lived in southern vietnam but believe that they need to drive out the americans)

and the third one is former southern vietnam goverment.

personally im not too fluent in the history of flags - i just know that communist architecture in vn is not modelled too closely like asian layout cause its supposed to be international cause the ideology is "supposed" to be international and not bounded by race

Yeah, red used as background is ugly because it places too much emphasis on warfare and killing. Yellow as a background stresses the common unity of the Vietnamese people and the progress we strive to make.

Even if the flag was changed however, what matter more is what the flag represents. So if the Viet govt adopted red, blue and white, it wouldn't changed my opinion one bit about it unless it also undergo substanial reforms.

i kind of like both flag but what i hate is that if u go to the US and put the red flag the viet ppl here would get piss and if u go to vietnam and put the yellow flag the ppl over there would get piss

I think the flag is too bright. I think we should have an international design competition for the Vietnamese flag. Competition is only open for Vietnamese in Vietnam and overseas and using the traditional Vietnamese colours, yellow and red (what else). But anyway, don't you think it's gonna be cool?

Yea, come to think of it ,, it may signify division once again, notice the two halves (yellows) ? .. I agree there should be a Vietnamese flag competition to see which is best.. .. I don't like the communist flag...

that's Vovinam (Viet Vo Dao) coding for the grade belts.

So the SVN flag said: 3 same blood (same color) flowing. Probably North + Central + South.

I have same preference as Byron's.

But we can also try to design a new red flag with yellow Vietnam map outlines. The star is an Occidental design. Probably bourgeois Christian.

if you just look at the Chinese and Vietnamese flag, without anysort of knowledge the two nations. I think ppl will think the Viet one is the big brother, hey it got this BIG STAR IN THE MIDDLE.

For some reasons asian ppl like using the stars, maybe because Stars are yellow which matches our skin color. If i am correct one of the reasons why stars are used in the current chinese flag is because of the color.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought only Vietnam, China and North Korea placed stars in their flags, and North Korea's star isn't yellow.

Haha...well just put the yellow flag with three stripes in your car when you're over here. When you go back to Vietnam don't worry about t. I don't see average Vietnameses in Saigon hang up the communist flag in their home unless they worked for the govt.

Yeah

swastika wouldn't be a good idea even though it was originally ment for good intentions.
Its history has been corrupted and I don't think Viet Nam would get much respect from any country if it used it.

what we need is just one flag where everyone can recomnies us and we can be unity under one country one flag and one goal.

and the swastika originally is a hindu symbol and followed by other Indic religions like buddhisms etc. used in designs all over asia. but the nazis made it famous by using it as thier symbol. now ever time people see a swastika they think nazi.

I like the star. Every flag either has stars, moon, sun, or stripes. I want Vietnam to get rid of the red flag because it's just a replica of one of fukien is it? We should have a flag convention and have artists design a new flag that would truly represent the people of Vietnam. Forget the yellow with stripes or the red with star, let's have one for the future for one Vietnam.

I am staying in Saigon. It is funny for what you talk as above. Most of Vietnamese in Saigon hang up the red flag whenever they can.

Not just that, we need a new flag to unify a new Vietnam. I am sick and tired of overseas Viet and Viet of fighting over VNCH and CSVN flags. These flags divide Vietnam.
