They look so different from the Chinese, although I have heard stuff saying they might have come from there long, long, long x982374 , long... time ago

well that's all fine and correct but korean and japanese languages, the method most often times used to determine racial origins of people, does not bear semblance to anything near or close to it, same with korea. some believe that the language have origins in russia, kinda like how the ainus are actually uralic in origin.

there have been alot of immigration going on for millenium. There are some japanese that look different, but in the general population just look like the typical asian. I wouldn't say they look totally different.

RACIALLY, japanese are descended from artic/paleosiberian races like the Jomon and YaoYi who migrated over from Korea, the austronesian inhabitants of their small islands as well as the Ainu aboriginals with SOME migration from China

25% Chinese Gen type,
25% Korean Gen Type,
and another 20% Gen type includes Austronesian, Russian and etc.
Particular Gen type which is only found in Japanese is less than 5%.

Also known from the inquiry of cultural anthropology, Japanese traditional culture is structured from / including of various Asian cultures.

These investigations tell us that Japanese people/culture never be able to divide to the dominator and the ruled race group.
I think Japanese people/culture was gradually made by merging via sequentially conflicting and reconciliation between ancient settlers.
