Vietnam tops LG Int’l Taekwondo tournament

The Vietnamese team won the top trophy at the 3rd Open LG-Vietnam International Taekwondo Tournament.

The Vietnamese team took home seven gold medals, seven silver and one bronze, followed by the Republic of Korea (six gold, four silver and one bronze), Taiwan (two gold, two silver and five bronze), Thailand (one gold, three silver and five bronze) and Malaysia (one bronze).

The tournament, which was held in Ho Chi Minh City last weekend, drew 87 Taekwondo artists from the RoK, Thailand, Malaysia, Taiwan and Vietnam.

The RoK delegation also sent a group of children trained in Taekwondo to perform at the event

Well this was a pretty small tournament. If you really wanna guage the level of competition in taekwondo, the 2003 World Championships held in Germany would give you a much, much more accurate representation. Check it out.
Of course, Korea owned everyone in division 1. They're still tops in the sport. The best fighters just don't go to the smaller tournaments.

Vietnam didn't send a very big or good team to that tournament. Let's wait and see in the upcoming 2004 Athens Olympics

Most definitely. if I remember correctly, a Vietnamese woman won silver at the sydney olympics. But lets face the facts...Taekwondo is dominated by Koreans just like badminton is by the Indonesians and Chinese or kickboxing by the Thais. They picked up a few gold medals 4 years ago, they'll prolly pick up a few more next month.
