Full Version: How Are You Going To Contribute To Viet Nam?

Recent news articles about people returning to their homeland to help their country reminded me of this question that I've been meaning to ask for a while.

To reiterate, how are you going to contribute to your mother country? And what steps are you going to take to achieve that goal? The goal may be big or small, directly or indirectly...it doesn't matter, as long as you follow through.

As I'm studying Biomedical Engineering, I think I'll help my country through health-related engineering. To do this, I'll find a company to work for who has an altrustic reputation. After moving up the ladder after some years and establishing myself as a integral part of the company, I will propose that help me financially to start a health clinic in Viet Nam that provides reduced-cost treatment. Or maybe start a manufacturing plant in VN that makes medical devices which could be provided to hospitals and doctors at lower costs. Basically, I want to be able to directly help the Vietnamese people, utilizing my background in engineering and medicine.

Sorta like Paul Farmer world renown anthropologist and doctor who goes to Haiti to set up the Lasante Clinic providing free care for the destitute. Good luck, it's a worthy goal.

A corrupted custom official at the airport is probably better. That way you can get rich robbing from your Vietnamese brothers while leaving the foreign tourists alone biggrin.gif .

I'm gonna go to the Vietnam Cambodia border and move some border markers into Cambodian territory. Just kidding. icon_smile.gif

If you got guts, you would move the markers on the Sino-Viet border to its rightful place instead of picking on cambodia.

Yeah but the Chinese will just move them back or even put them back deeper into Vietnam. It's more easier to move the Cambodian ones because our troops will make sure they won't be moved back.

lol I'm not stupid. I mean if I move them they are just gonna move them back. So what's the point? There's a difference between being brave and being stupid.

The thing is the land which China is taking is OUR original land.

I would move it, if the Vietnamese government didn't approve of it. Chances are the Vietnamese government will probably move it back themselves. How can I do it, if I don't even have the support by Vietnam to do it?

Support of "Vietnam" or support of "Dang Cong Hoa Xa Hoi Chu Nghia Viet Nam" biggrin.gif

lol, the problem is. Byron you're a Vietnamese who has never been to Vietnam and can't speak vietnamese. And I guess you'll just grow up , work and die in the country you're living in, without contributing anything real to Vietnam.

And I am going to lay some land mines around those makers just for Byron. Don't worry Cambodia has plenty of land mines. Wasting a few on land grabbers is no big deal. embarassedlaugh.gif embarassedlaugh.gif And, if Byron escaped, I am gonna bribe supernovasp (since he's an airport offical) to arrest him on charges that he's Khmer entering VN illegally. Byron is somewhat dark -- of course the official gonna believe that he's Khmer. embarassedlaugh.gif biggrin.gif

You don't need to be a Vietnamese citizen to be a crewmember for either Vietnam Airlines or Pacific Airlines.

At the moment, the only thing I think I could do in the future is to help Vietnamese economically, like investing in Vietnam or something.

Politics is a no no.

Byron has got mindset towards que huong which is the important thing - anyways judging from the fact that he doesn't speak vietnamese well just means he wasnt born in VN - its not like he doesnt want to know

Byron is one proud Vietnamese. I guess he should learn Chu Quoc Ngu to be a completely proud Viet don't you think?

He doesn't speak it. Learning quoc ngu is just like reading a French essay for American, we can sound it out but we have no ideas what are you reading
vn1234
there one ultimate way to remedy that

drop Byron in VN for a few months and presto

Lay off Byron a little - it's difficult for a foreign born Viet to learn the language, and it's much harder if they don't teach Viet classes at all where he lives. Nonetheless, there's still no excuse for at least not trying to learn; so as long as he's trying, it's all good icon_smile.gif
vn1234
no one is pickin on byron - we brewing up strategies to make byron learn vietnamese the fastest and came up with parachuting him into VN - except Khmer Krom village and Quang Nam

The evolution of this thread:

Contributions to VN -> Being a corrupted officer -> Rearranging Cambodian and Chinese borders -> Supernovasp doing a Viet girl a favor by letting her marry him -> Byron's inability to speak Viet -> Making sure Byron doesn't parachute in a Khmer village -> A girl for Byron -> (who knows??)

You guys (me included) really need some Ritalin.

I don't see it that way.
I see it as having a profound & eternal effect for one (Việtnamese) person rather than a small & possibly insignificant effect for many.

After some time, there will be offsprings of Việtnamese ethnicity who will know the language, culture & history of their quê hương (compliments of their parents).
They will grow up as adults, each successful in their field of expertise, & contribute to Việtnam.
They will also often visit their mother & father upon retirement of ông bà giả này in Vũng Tàu...
đấy chẳng phải là đóng góp sao cơ ?

hey DragonMP - whats that "cơ" supposed to mean - ive heard some ladies say it to me and the first time i thought they were calling me "con" after every phrase haha - is it like the viet equivalent of "eh"

I am thinking about spending few months (or maybe a year) in Vietnam, helping children or low-income people in countryside to learn some basic computer skills. I don't think I can do it soon before saving enough money.
I have read some VN magazines and really admire those US and Australian students, who wandered around the city of Saigon to tutored Vietnamese poor kids for their school works even on sidewalks. I am Vietnamese, yet I haven't done anything for my own people icon_confused.gif

Yep, then there's young people born in Saigon, Vietnam after the war and who lived there for quite a number of years and then grap at the chance to come to America and afterward hated the communist because they found out they been lied to all those years about Ho, the Viet War, and what democratic nations are like while they went through school.

Then there are Vietnamese born in the West who thinks the Viet govt is great when they never lived in Vietnam. I feel sorry for those kids.

I wonder if the Peace Corp has a mission in Vietnam? Would be a great organization to do those things you talked about through. A friend of mine with a graduate degree from MIT is going to Africa this October to teach math to children.
