Vietnam receives more Australia's aid than ...China!

The Australian government will provide $1.894 billion on Official Development Assistance (ODA) in 2003-2004, an increase of $70 million over the 2002-2003 figure of $1.815 billion and a real increase of over 2%. The ratio of Australia's ODA to Gross National Income (GNI) for 2003-2004 is estimated at 0.25%.

Which countries receive Australian aid?
Australia government aid is focussed on the Asia Pacific region. Over 80% of Australia's aid activities are conducted through bilateral aid partnerships with 49 countries in the Asia Pacific. It provides selective assistance to Africa and the Middle East through international and non-government organisations.

The top five countries for Australia government aid in 2003-04
(in millions of dollars)

Papua New Guinea 333.6
Indonesia 151.7
Vietnam 72.1
Philippines 62.4
China 50.7

You'd expect Poor nations to recieve more 'Aid' than Richer developed nations.

That is why Vietnam recieved more than China, because Vietnam is poor.

You make it sound like China is a developed nation - again, to reiterate, it's still a third world country, and a Chinese member even called it a "@$$-backward country."

Yes, we know VN is poor - we never try to pass VN off as a rich, prosperous country that a few overly nationalistic, even deluded, Chinese members here try to do for China. sure.gif

I thought he was like the richest man in the world.
So what you trying to say?
EmSkittles19
China's got some serious smog in the morning so they must be working real hard at developing,... something.

China's national GDP < Bill Gates income.

That's clear?

Certain Chinese are so high about China's recent successes that they forgot China is still a dirt poor country with 500 million peasants and 300 million unemployed.

Well I hope their dream run will last sure.gif

Exactly. Chinese will look at these comments and say we're trying to take credit away from them or we're rooting for them to fail. Sure, if correcting their overly optimistic perception is rooting for failure.

What annoys me also is their condescending attitude towards Viet Nam's economy, while China is still a backward country itself. What boggles my mind, however, is that they are also condescending towards the Japan, when it's much richer, has more important allies, is more respected around the world, and is more advanced. Their attitude, that's in serious need of change, just screams 'DELUSION.' And I find it amusing that they constantly bash Japan as being "America's lapdog." Very true, but look at what Japan has to gain from it. China can't do diddly squat to Japan, as much as they hold bitter resentment for the Japanese for WWII. If they ever try to screw Japan, the whole Western world will b!tch slap China that all 1.3 billion citizens will feel the effects of. Hmm...that "lapdog" sure holds considerable power then.

Well not surprising considering they still have the "son of heaven" mentality. embarassedlaugh.gif

I just hope that they wake up and face the geo-politics of the 21st century.

It's impossible, they're delusional.

It's known for a fact that the Chinese thinks they're superior than Japanese, Koreans, Vietnamese, Indians, Mongolians and other Asians.

They don't call us "southern barbarians" for no reason.
Nero874
And that Chinese mindset is wholly unsubstantiated and unjustified.
