Of course VN have a national soccer team. It was formed int he late 90s, and participated in SEA and Asia games and has been doing better and better each and every year. VN could easily dominate SEA along with Thailand.

You can go to footballasia.com for updates on soccer in Asia, Vietnam included.
For Vietnam national team info, and V-Leauge, go to baothethao.com or is it .net? or .vn?, I don't know, been a long time, try google it. Vnexpress too.
VN soccer is the best in South East Asia, tieing with Thailand. Compared to the rest of Asia, I think we would do alright. We are just unlucky, and have to face the giant of Asian soccer, Korea, at every qualifier. That's why we didn't make it to the Asian cup. We had to played Korea in the qualifier, but we did surprisingly beat them 1-0. Biggest upset in Asia. But that still was not enough to get us in.
Then during the WC qualifier, we were placed in the same table with S. Korea again. We lost 1 game to them, and the upcoming game will be in September.
We're just unlucky, if we were to be lucky like Laos, HK, Macau, Taiwan, Sri Lanka, all the SE Asia teams, we could easily advanced.

Umm. I don't think so, the Vietnamese National Team is way older then that.
Bought it earlier this year in Saigon. Too bad Adidas doesn't stock the actual replica jersey (I guess they reckon most people are just gonna buy the fakes off the street anyways), this was the closest thing to what the players wear.
And damn, I gotta admit Phan Van Quynh is pretty good.

I think the unified team was organized in 1994, and didn't participate in international tournaments until 1996 when they took part in SEA games and Tiger Cup. V-League was organized in 2000, I think.
But soccer in Vietnam has been around since the 1800s when the French introduced us to the "beautiful game." We even had a league and play against the French in Indochina and those in malaysia and the philipines, hk too. My uncle always tell me how S. Vietnam soccer team beat Japan and Korea during that time.

Yeah, you're probably right. I didn't realize that you were talking about the unified team.
I think Vietnam has a lot of potential as a soccer nation. With a population of over 80m crazy fans there's bound to be some gems in there.

That's a sweet jersey, I'd like to get one as well.
You're referring to Văn Quyến right ?

yeah, Van Quyeh, hehe, I'm not too good with my vietnamese.
I was watching the SEA Games last year and he was just the absolute stand-out from the Vietnamese team. Although he was a bit of a ball-hog at times.
How good was that last-minute goal against Thailand in the Finals to take the game into extra-time.

Van Quyen is a really good striker, but I heard the new coach didn't let him play the game against S. Korea, because he's a ball-hog. I think he need a few years for him to mature into a better soccer player.
So you got the jersey from Vietnam? I wonder if they have it here.

I think so, even though I was surprised to see him left out of that squad. It does get frustrating watching him lose the ball after trying to outdribble the entire opponent defence again and again and again....
Yeah, got it from the Adidas store in Nguyen Hue St, Saigon.

Van Quyen was called back to the national team.
ALL foreign coaches don't like him at first, but at the end, he is still in the national team

Sorry mate, but it'll be a bit hard for me to buy them now since I'm back in Oz.
There are shorts to go with it but I look kinda daggy in shorts. There were a blue alternate jersey available too. Now I regret not buying that too, they were only $300000VND each.
My plan is to somehow grab hold of an replica match jersey (like the one the players wear) when I go back to vietnam at the end of the year, hopefully Adidas will start stocking them. Maybe if I hassle them enough...
