I'm sorry you and your friend refer to yourselves as "Japanese." It's the white people's word to degrade the Japanese, and you two buy all into that. You japanese in general really need to stop glorifying the West and looking down upon your own culture. The reason I care is that white people see this and believe ALL Asians are Western-centric...I don't want any white people believing I'm ready to abandon my own culture for theirs, and I surely as hell don't call myself "g@@k."

well the only reason why we call ourselves 'Japanese' is because its shorthand and we tend to refer to each other by our initials/nicknames/other shorthands alot so we're just used to it, not glorifying the westerners or anything like that

we don't like to look too deep into things like that..its not much of our concern
why live life thinking of every single detail we say? anyhow, i am ashamed of some japanese who do seem to believe the westerners are our superior and that does happen sometimes in our culture
but not all are like that and i, for one, am proud (not like screaming 'ASIAN PRIDE!!!' around my street or anything though) of both the chinese and japanese cultures of which i both am
and i don't try to make myself any more western or anything like that
and to answer your question, my dad is japanese and he definately likes to preserve his culture
