Vinashin is doing very good this year. I think we should have more heavy weighted oil tankers if PetroVietnam find more oil in foreign oil fields. China is currently building 400,000 tonnes oil tanker.

Vinashin Starts Building PetroVietnam's Largest Oil Tanker5-4-07 12:39 AM EDT | E-mail Article | Print Article

HANOI -(Dow Jones)- State-owned Vinashin Business Group has started building a 150,000-deadweight-ton oil tanker for PetroVietnam, a Vinashin official said Friday.
The tanker, which will be the largest Vinashin has built and also Vietnam's largest oil tanker, is expected to be built in the next 18 months at a cost of $ 110 million, the official from Vinashin's external business department said.

The Polish-designed tanker will be used by state-owned PetroVietnam at its Bach Ho oil field, the official said.

"Vinashin plans to build three tankers like this for PetroVietnam, and will build more for foreign companies in the next three years," he said.

Foreign companies have asked Vinashin to build about a dozen of such large oil tankers, he said without naming any of the foreign companies.

So far, unlisted Vinashin has signed contracts to build ships valued at more than $10 billion for domestic and foreign clients, company figures showed.

We should employ some expertise from the Koreans, they have the largest ship yards in the world and are killing the ship building market. They build over 200 ships a year and that number steadily rising. $100 million a pop for each ship completed is a damn good profit. They've already surpass the Japanese in this sector.

Lets hope Vietnam can surpass this one day!!!
