Viet Nam: world second largest cashew exporter
  07/07/2004 -- 21:18(GMT+7)

Ha Noi (VNA) - Viet Nam exported 42,000 tonnes of cashews in the first six months of this year, earning 155 million USD, a rise of 55 percent over the same period last year.

As a result, the country secured its position as the world's second largest cashew exporter after India.

The Trade Ministry said the export price of Vietnamese cashews stood  at 3,800 USD per tonne in the period. During the period, the export price of cashew nuts rose considerably by some 600-800 USD per tonne over the same period last year.

The higher price was attributed to the cashew producers' application of modern processing technologies that increased the quality of the cashews.

This year, Viet Nam plans to ship abroad 100,000 tonnes of cashews and earn 350 million USD.

To that end, cashew businesses were advised to expand foreign outlets, especially in Russia where the demand for cashew nut is growing, and focus their attention on ensuring the quality of their products.-Enditem

lol we don't need to depend on imports. If there was no globalism, we would have enough resources to run our country and feed our people.
