07/09/2004 -- 11:17(GMT+7)

Moscow, July 9 (VNA) - Ngo Viet Ha, a 14 year-old Vietnamese tennis player, won the women's title at the U16 "Russian Dream" international tennis tournament held in Saint Petersburg, Russia, from June 28 to July 2.

Ha captured first place after defeating a host player, Julia Gavchenko, 2-0 (6-1, 7-5) in the final. She also took the first prize in women's doubles together with another host player after surpassing the first seeded pair.

The regular tournament, organized by the European Tennis Association (ETA), drew the participation of about 100 male and female players who have high positions in the ranking lists of Europe and Russia.

The Vietnamese girl was exceptionally permitted to participate in the tournament despite her low rank.

Ha, studying in Moscow, had won first prize at the Moscow tennis championship for U12 players and six other prizes in U18 tournaments of the International Tennis Federation (ITF). Last year, she participated in a national tennis tournament in Viet Nam and took the championship in the U14 group.-Enditem
