HANOI (Reuters) - A Vietnamese man has stabbed his wife to death after an argument over his loss of nearly 7,000 pounds in bets on Euro 2004 soccer matches.

Police in the central city of Vinh, about 300 km (185 miles) south of the capital Hanoi, arrested the 64-year-old man last Thursday and charged him with murder of his wife.

Soccer-mad communist Vietnam, where per capita income is only about 280 pounds a year, has been avidly following the Euro 2004 soccer championships in Portugal, with office workers sacrificing sleep and gambling over the results.

Soccer betting is illegal but widely popular in Vietnam.

Totally agree. I don't trust Vietnamese, and Asians in general when it comes to gambling to exercise self control.

Dude the government is already doing something about this. Betting is illegal in Vietnam but how can you enforce everyone betting?

The only form of legalised gambling in Vietnam is horse-racing.

Seriousily i think we shouldn't trust those european soccer fans, espically the brits, since they start burning their opponents national flag, because they are nutzzzz. You know sometimes they beat the F out of eachtoher, torch the area on fire, making it like a warzone, just because of a bloody soccer match. I think those europeans needs therapy.
